In 1922, Bulyea and Gilchrist were the first to be given permanent appointments in Dentistry at the U of A. In a 1976 interview in New Trail, Bulyea, who was then 102 years old, recalled being asked by a patient — Henry Marshall Tory — to come to the U of A to teach dentistry in the middle of the 1919–1920 term. He accepted and went on to build the dental school where he taught for 22 years. Bulyea was the first dentist in Alberta to practise block anesthesia, the first to bring an X-ray machine into the province, and the first to set up a group clinic. (Bottom left) Edgerton L.
