RŪTA is a family business and the founder of the oldest confectionary factory in Lithuania is named Antanas Gricevicius. During the occupation period the factory was ruled by the government of the country. In 1993 the old buildings of RŪTA, taking 5000 sq. m and 0.9 ha of land were returned to A. Gricevicius' successors and it became a private company. Today the company is still managed by his grandchildren. In 2002 the company's quality system was first certified under the international standard ISO 9001:1994. RŪTA is the oldest confectionery producer in Lithuania, the history of which began in 1913. The company cherishes the ancestor’s traditions, therefore, still manufactures a number of positions by hand and is highly concerned about the quality and exclusivity. On June the 1st three years ago, Rūta’s Chocolate Museum was inaugurated in the authentic 1920’s building of the confectionery factory. The exhibits at the museum showcase the factory’s exciting history and uncover four thousand years’ worth of secrets and specific facts of how chocolate has been and still is consumed.
