New Faces, New Styles Johnny Mah Swee Sung gives an introduction to the Basketball Association of Singapore’s Technical Committee and the plans it has put in place. In the upcoming issues of D&D, basketball rules and case studies will be discussed with interpretations from experienced referees. une 11 2005 marked a significant change in Basketball Association of Singapore Technical Committee history. On that day, a new Technical Committee under the leadership of Seah Liang Bing was successfully appointed by Basketball Association of Singapore. The committee members have been selected by Mr Seah.

The committee is sub-divided into five divisions: • Deployment Division • Registration Division • Technical Development Division • Welfare Division • Secretariat Its goals are: • To produce world class referee • To enhance unity of all referee • To increase training and upgrading programmes • To organize activities more systematically • To ensure the assignment of tournament is transparent • To ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all the referees In order to achieve its goals, the committee has come up with the following plans: • Mentorship Programme • Evaluation & Grading System • Referee Course • Refresher Course • Quarterly Beep Test • Referee Gathering • Dialogue Sessions

Many of these plans have already been implemented and more can be expected in future. Profile Johnny Mah Swee Sung holds the position of Head Technical Development in the Basketball Association of Singapore Technical Committee. He is also an experienced FIBA Referee and FIBA National Referee Instructor.
