The process of learning architecture requires one to remain translucent to ideas. Meaning that one must filter out ideas that aren’t part of learning and allow ideas to inform in a way that might change their point of view. This idea of translucency is expressed in my design through the use of translucent glass as well as the overall form of the building. From the exterior, it appears as though the large Corten wall has been penetrated by another building and on the relief side it has been significantly reduced in size as though it has been filtered and refined. The large axis wall surrounded in perforated Corten Steel serves as the filtering barrier for the entire building. The perforated shell filters daylight while shielding the building from excessive heat gain. The space also serves as the metaphorical highway for the building as it is the main path of travel that connects to all other spaces. The push pull effect on the façade creates Brise Soleil which, promotes daylight while filtering solar heat gain.
