Welcome Back Bronchos! It is time for the annual orientation program for first year students! In addition, the traditional Stampede Week is set to welcome all returning students for the 20122013 academic year. New Broncho Orientation and Parent Orientation will fill campus with new students, eager to learn about UCO traditions and how to succeed in university life. Stampede Week will have some 20 activities and events ranging from both Volunteer and Part-Time Job fairs, to movies and comedy shows. Spotlight on Students

Matthew Esch has been awarded the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship sponsored by the U.S. Department of State to participate in an exchange program at Pukyong University in South Korea. Esch will be the first UCO student to attend this partner institution.

Kudos to Nick Carter for receiving a grant from Pukyong University in South Korea to visit this past July. In addition, Carter and Olivia Hutchinson (not pictured) were awarded a scholarship to study abroad in Taiwan for a semester.

Congratulations to Ms. Nicole Gifford for being selected as the UCO Ambassador for the Study in Spain Ambassadors program (SiS). The UCO Centre for Global Competency (CGC) was selected as a part of the SiS program sponsored by the Embassy of Spain-Trade Commission Miami, the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX), and EDUESPANA. The goal is to promote the Spanish language and culture in institutions of higher learning in the United States.

Top honors have been awarded to the men of the Mu Tau chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity by national headquarters for quality initiatives undertaken over the past year.


Student Affairs in the News

New Coordinator of UCO Testing Services, Ken Elliott, has hit the ground running as he distinguishes himself with numerous professional accomplishments. Elliott was a guest presenter at this summer’s Oklahoma School Counselor Association (OCSA) conference, where he was tapped to serve as the 2013-2014 President. Elliott comes to UCO after having been named one of the Top Five School counselors of the year by the American School Counselor Association, an honor which netted him a visit to the White House. Additionally he recently published “A Spotlight on School Counselor Intervention,” which is based upon a four year statewide study of the challenges

Kay Robinson, Director of Student Activities won the Oklahoma College Student Personnel Association’s “Impact Award” at the group’s spring conference, which she helped bring to the UCO campus.

Congratulations to UCO’s new Director of the Volunteer and Service Learning Center, Sharra Hynes, for writing a chapter in the recently published book, “Learning is Not a Sprint: Assessing and Documenting Student Leader Learning in Cocurricular Involvement.”

Kudos to Courtney James, Assistant Director of Campus Activities for being appointed to the 2013 National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) Central Region Committee as the Volunteer Development Coordinator.
