he community of Blackheath recently held a football tournament in memory of two local youngsters who sadly passed away late last year. The two were Greenfield residents Tyrone Japhta and Kyle Engelbregt. Tyrone passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Hindle Road in Blue Downs, while Kyle passed away due to natural causes. The inaugural Tyrone and Kyle Legacy Cup Tournament, as it was called, was hosted by the AFM Blackheath Church’s Football Fellowship in Valley Road earlier this month in honour of the two. With your permission, your daughter can be vaccinated against HPV. Western Cape Government Health will be providing vaccinations to all Grade 4 girls, aged 9 years and older, who attend Public or Special Needs schools.
What is Measles? Measles is an infectious disease that is spread through the sneezes or coughs of infected people. Measles can lead to serious illness, and in extreme cases disability and even death. Measles facts • A quarter of all deaths from measles occur before the age of one year • The duration of the illness is 7 - 10 days • Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, red watery eyes, cough and runny nose • A rash usually appears 3 - 5 days after the above symptoms • People are most infectious during the coughing and runny nose phase How can Measles be prevented? It’s very simple: vaccinate your child today. Once vaccinated, 85% of children from 9 months of age and 95% over 12 months of age are immune.
Remember: Parents will receive a CONSENT FORM from the pre-school/crèche, which must be SIGNED AND RETURNED to the school for their child to be vaccinated.
