Adventure Vacations If laying on a beach all week is not how you want to spend your honeymoon, consider an adventurous, bucket list worthy trip. Popular activities include trekking across the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, going on Safari in Africa, Ziplining in the rain forest of Costa Rica, or swimming with the sharks in Australia. Adventure honeymoons can provide spectacular photo memories and stories that will last a lifetime. Road Trip For the spontaneous couple that enjoy the wind in their hair and the horizon in the review mirror, a road trip honeymoon is a great way to spend time on the open road together. You could plan to camp at some of America’s National Parks, or you could travel from one big city to another and try out the best hotel in each! To ensure you are able to relax on your vacation, be prepared to do a bit of planning in advance. Ski Trip If a day together on the ski slopes followed by a night by the fire at your condo is more your style, a ski honeymoon is the way to go. There are great ski areas in the United States, and even as close as Canada, but you could be adventurous and head to the Swiss Alps. If you’re not adverse to the cold or the prices of ski gear and lift tickets, a winter wonderland honeymoon could be perfect!

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

We know it’s a bummer, but if you and your new spouse are jet-setting on your honeymoon right after the wedding, you’re going to want to use your maiden name when making your travel reservations. It takes time to process and issue the marriage certificate which is required for changing your name on official documents. Then you have to wait to receive your updated identification such as a drivers license or passport in your new married name. Traveling under your maiden name will cut down on the stress of receiving these documents on time. Once you get back from your amazing trip you can apply for a name change on your passport. You will have to mail in your old passport, but it will be returned to you along with your brand new passport with your new last name. As long as you file the name change form for your passport (called a 5504 form) within 12 months of your wedding, you will not have to pay an additional fee for the change.
