BOGANGAR residents had a chance to put questions to NSW election candidates for the seat of Tweed at a meeting on Monday night, March 20, at Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club.

National Party Member for Tweed Geoff Provest joined Labor candidate Craig Elliot, the Animal Justice Party’s Susie Hearder and Green’s candidate Ciara Denham to respond to questions put to them by the community prior to the event.

Sharon Leslie said that all four candidates agreed there would be free parking at the new hospital.

Members of the Cabarita Beach Bogangar Residents Association (CBBRA) Flood Mitigation Group asked the candidates if, as the local member, they would commit to supporting CBBRA “to get an appropriate flood mitigation study and then get any viable recommended solutions approved and funded.”

Andy Williams was one of the residents who attended the meeting and has been part of the team pushing to get flood mitigation seriously looked at after the devastation in Bogangar/ Cabarita Beach last year, which they say was caused by drainage problems.

“All candidates are highly supportive of a flood mitigation study for Bogangar,” he said.

Another resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the candidates were “well prepared.”

“Geoff’s experience was obvious and is a huge advantage over newcomers,” she said.

“Ciara from the Greens was very impressive with her detailed and well considered answers to prepared questions.

“Susie showed her passion and local knowledge but inexperience.

“Craig’s speeches showed his background in the forces and his strength of his conviction that Provest has had long enough to have minimised the problems in the Tweed but has failed.

“There wasn’t thunderous applause for any of them from the disappointingly small but polite crowd.” and are just around the corner when you need them.

Part way through March we had a community stall joining us. At this stall was the family and friends of a local 16-year-old boy, Noah who at the end of last year was diagnosed with a brain tumour that required surgery.

The surgery has left him in the wheelchair as he developed a condition which affects his mobility and speech and has left him requiring constant care.

Not only are Noah’s family and friends raising awareness for the
