House saved in Tweed Heads South

By Jo Kennett FIREFIGHTERS MANAGED to save a house at Tweed Heads South, after a fire broke out in a bedroom on Saturday, March 6. Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Tweed Heads and Banora Point both raced to the home in Peel Circuit, Tweed Heads South, after the fire was reported at around 10pm. Tweed Heads firefighters were first on the scene and found smoke issuing from the singlestorey dwelling. The fire was located at the rear of the property and extinguished with an all clear given that no one was inside the building. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for fire extension and hotspots. Firefighters ventilated the property with a positive pressure ventilation fan which also removed the smoke. A gas detector was used to check the building was safe for occupants. Fortunately, the swift action of firefighters saved the fire from spreading through the rest of the home. Tweed Police and Essential Energy workers were also on the scene to provide assistance. The fire started in a rear bedroom and may have been caused by an electrical fault.
