Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note at studentloans.gov

What is a Master Promissory Note (MPN)? A MPN is a legally binding contract that you sign, agreeing to repay the loan money you borrow. The MPN describes your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower.

Tiffin University participates in the Federal Direct Loan programs, which means all students receiving aid from this loan must complete a Master Promissory Note. Once you sign the MPN, a new MPN will not be required for any new Federal Loans for ten years.

Items you will need to help you complete your MPN:

1. Student’s social security number 2. Federal Student Aid user ID & password 3. Driver’s license number 4. Names and contact information for two references 5. Student’s date of birth

Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling at studentloans.gov

What is Entrance Counseling? Entrance counseling is an online tutorial and quiz session to educate first-time borrowers, and takes roughly 25 minutes to complete. Returning students do not need to complete entrance counseling if they have borrowed a Federal Direct Loan in prior academic years.

Items you will need to complete your entrance counseling:

1. Student’s social security number 2. Your Federal Student Aid user ID & password 3. School name

**Your MPN and entrance counseling must be completed before your loan will disburse to your student account.
