Selecta revisión de seis décadas del trabajo visual de Henri Michaux (Namur, Bélgica, 1899- París, Francia, 1984), figura inclasificable del arte y la literatura del siglo XX, y referente de culto para grandes artistas como Francis Bacon o Asger Jorn.
Art and space starts with the historic meeting between Eduardo Chillida and philosopher Martin Heidegger, and with the artist’s book of the same title published in 1969 with prints by the great Basque sculptor.

Michael Snow (Toronto, 1929) es una de las figuras clave del cine experimental y de la videoinstalación. Circuito cerrado ofrece un montaje de obras recientes en las que el medio videográfico se presenta como un canal sensorial autónomo, sin apenas rastro de intencionalidad humana.
Esther Ferrer (b. 1937, Donostia/San Sebastián), a pioneer and one of the main representatives of performance art in Spain. Plastic art works by means of staged photographs, installations, paintings based on series of prime numbers, objects...
Michael Snow (b. 1929,Toronto) has been a key figure in experimental film and video installation. Closed Circuit will offer a montage of works from different periods where video is presented as an autonomous sensory channel with hardly a trace of human intention.

Eduardo Arroyo - Hasta el 9 de abril / Until 9 April Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937) es uno de los pintores más destacados del arte español de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. La exposición presenta un grupo de pinturas, realizadas en sus dos últimos años. Les acompañan varias obras representativas de su trabajo como escultor. Entre las pinturas se encuentra Le retour des croisades (2017), inspirada en el lienzo Víctima de la fiesta (1910) de Ignacio Zuloaga (Eibar, 1870 - Madrid, 1945), depositado por la Hispanic Society of America en el museo. Gran parte de las obras se presentan por primera vez en nuestro país tras haber formado parte de la amplia retrospectiva que la Fundación Maegth (Saint Paul de Vence, Francia) ha dedicado recientemente al pintor.
Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937) is one of the most important Spanish artists of the second half of the 20th century. This exhibition presents a group of the artist's paintings created during his last two years. These works are accompanied by various representative examples of his output as a sculptor. Paintings on display include Le retour des croisades (2017) inspired by The Victim of the Bullfight (1910) by Ignacio Zuloaga (Eibar, 1870 – Madrid, 1945) on deposit at the museum from the Hispanic Society of America. Most of the works by Arroyo are presented here for the first time in Spain following their inclusion in the extensive retrospective on the artist recently held at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (France).

Es la primera exposición dedicada al pintor en Bilbao, dedicando una especial atención a los personajes de origen vasco o navarro retratados por Goya en estos años, incluyendo a su más cercano entorno familiar.
This exhibition, dedicated to Francisco de Goya, focuses on the paintings commissioned from this artist from Zaragoza until his arrival in Madrid, particularly for the king. This is the first exhibition dedicated to this painter in Bilbao, will a particular focus on characters of Basque or Navarrese origin portrayed by Goya during those years, including his closest family circle.

El Museo Vasco de Bilbao está ubicado en pleno Casco Viejo, ocupando el edificio del siglo XVII del que fuera Iglesia y Colegio San Andrés de la Compañía de Jesús. En su planta baja está uno de los atractivos principales del museo, el claustro, un espacio único que expone sarcófagos, escudos de armas y el famoso ídolo del Mikeldi. Este se encontró junto a la desaparecida ermita de Mikeldi en Iurreta (Bizkaia). Está realizado en un único bloque de arenisca procedente de los alrededores de Durango y representa de forma esquemática a un animal, un verraco, entre cuyas patas y bajo el vientre aprisiona un disco. Es una escultura de carácter má12
gico-religioso. También hay aquí una reproducción del Crucero de Kurutziaga, cuyo original está en Durango. La primera planta del Museo Vasco está dedicada a la etnografía. Versa sobre la cultura pastoril, El Mar de los Vascos y las Artesanías Textiles (lino y lana). La segunda planta se centra en la cerámica y en las ferrerías, con piezas de la cerámica popular vasca, lozas y porcelanas. Y su tercera planta está concentrada en la Historia, con una maqueta de Bizkaia en tres dimensiones.

The Basque Museum in Bilbao is located in the heart of the Old Quarter, occupying the 17th-century building that used to be the Church and School of San Andrés de la Compañía de Jesús. The ground floor houses one of the Museum's main attractions, the cloisters, a unique space that exhibits sarcophagi, coats of arms and the famous Mikeldi idol. The latter was found beside the now disappeared chapel of Mikeldi in Iurreta (Biscay). It is made with a single block of sand-stone from near Durango and it represents the rough outline of an animal, a boar, with a disc between its legs and
under its abdomen. It is a magical-religious sculpture. There is also a reproduction of the Transept of Kurutziaga, the original of which is in Durango. The first floor of the Basque Museum is dedicated to ethnography. It deals with shepherding culture, the Basques and the Sea and Textile Craftsmanship (linen and wool). The second floor focuses on ceramics and ironworks, with Basque ceramics, pottery and porcelain items. And its third floor focuses on History, with a scale model of Biscay in three dimensions.

MUSIKA-MÚSICA 2018 1, 2, 3 y 4 de marzo / 1, 2, 3 and 4 March La decimoséptima edición del Festival Musika-Música, organizado por la Fundación Bilbao 700 con el patrocinio del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, se celebra los días 1, 2, 3 y 4 de marzo en Bilbao. El Palacio Euskalduna acoge este evento de carácter internacional que en esta edición se centra en el periodo de entreguerras. Musika-Música es un festival de música celebrado de forma anual y su característica principal es el carácter temático, ya que en cada una de sus ediciones las actuaciones se centran en una época, estilo o compositor concreto. Cada año atrae a un relevante número de intérpretes y de orquestas del más alto nivel y de muy variada procedencia al Palacio Euskalduna, donde tiene lugar este evento a lo largo del primer fin de semana de marzo.
The 17th edition of the Musika-Música Festival, organised by Fundación Bilbao 700 and sponsored by Bilbao City Council, will be held on 1, 2, 3 and 4 March in Bilbao. The Euskalduna Conference Centre will host this international event which during this edition will focus on the inter-war period. Musika-Música is an annual music festival and its main feature is its thematic approach, as during each of its editions the performances focus on a specific period, style or composer. Every year the Euskalduna Conference Centre attracts a significant number of top-level performers and orchestras from a wide range of origins, at an event that takes place during the first weekend of March.

Será el punto de encuentro para regatistas, navegantes, comunicadores y todos aquellos aficionados al mar y curiosos que disfrutarán con las distintas proyecciones, charlas con invitados nacionales e internacionales, exposiciones y pasión por la vela en la Sala BBK y en el Museo Marítimo Ría de Bilbao. Jürg Kaufmann, fotógrafo suizo invitado para mostrar las mejores imágenes del mar en algunas estaciones de Metro Bilbao, es el autor del cartel de esta quinta edición. SAIL In Festival, que nació en 2014, es una iniciativa para difundir el pasado, presente y futuro de la navegación a vela y los valores que esta modalidad conlleva.
For the fifth year, Bilbao becomes the international reference for sailing culture. It will be the meeting point for regatta sailors, navigators, communicators and all sea activity enthusiasts and curious visitors who will enjoy the different screenings, talks with national and international guests, exhibitions and a passion for sailing at the Sala BBK and at the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum. Jürg Kaufmann, a Swiss photographer invited to show his best images of the sea in some Metro Bilbao stations, is the author of this fifth edition’s poster. EL MEJOR RUGBY DE EUROPA EN BILBAO 11 y 12 de mayo Bilbao se prepara para recibir a miles de visitantes al acoger un acontecimiento de enorme calado: las finales de la European Rugby Champions Cup y de la European Rugby Challenge Cup. THE BEST EUROPEAN RUGBY IN BILBAO 11 and 12 May Bilbao is preparing to receive thousands of visitors by hosting a hugely popular event: the European Rugby Champions Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup finals. The San Mames stadium, one of the best and most modern on the continent, will turn into a temple of rugby. Friday 11 May, at 21:00, is the date and time for the Challenge Cup final. Saturday 12, at 17:45, will be the time for the Champions Cup. Four teams will be competing for the titles and many fans will come together to create a great atmosphere in San Mamés Stadium, spreading it to many other corners of the city where there will be a full programme of activities. BASQUE FEST Una cita con la cultura vasca en todos sus sentidos Durante la Semana Santa, del 28 de marzo al 1 de abril, regresa Basque Fest a Bilbao. Se trata del Festival de la cultura vasca por excelencia de estas vacaciones. La vocación de este evento es la de contribuir a reforzar el liderazgo cultural de la ciudad a través de la música, del deporte, la cultura, la gastronomía, y los productos locales, los cinco puntales de una iniciativa dirigida a toda la ciudadanía de Bilbao y a sus muchos visitantes durante esta época del año. El festival reúne tradición, innovación, arte, vanguardia en más de 200 actividades por toda la ciudad (la gran mayoría de ellas gratuitas)… y, en especial, propone muchos momentos para pasarlo bien. Basque Fest supone, cada año, un acontecimiento único, abierto e internacional, una cita con la cultura vasca en el sentido más amplio. Es, en definitiva, una forma universal de entender lo vasco. Por un lado, aparece la siempre interesante programación musical de Basque Fest, que se articula alrededor de varios tipos de oferta: muchas de las actividades abarcan lo que proviene de la raíz, del folklore, aunque con una mirada actual, mientras 38

BASQUE FEST An appointment with all aspects of Basque culture During Holy Week, from 28 March to 1 April, Basque Fest returns to Bilbao. It is the Festival of Basque culture par excellence during these holidays. A festival that seeks to help reinforce the city’s cultural leadership though music, sports, culture, gastronomy and local products, the five cornerstones of an initiative aimed at all of Bilbao’s citizens and at its many visitors during this time of the year. The festival combines tradition, innovation, art and avant-garde in more than 200 activities throughout the city (most of them free of charge)... and in particular, it proposes many moments to have a good time. Basque Fest is, every year, a unique event, open and international, a meeting with Basque culture in the broadest sense. It is, in short, a universal way of understanding all things Basque. On the one hand, there is always the interesting music agenda of Basque Fest, organised around several types of offerings: many of
the activities cover Basque culture’s roots, its folklore, though with a modern perspective, while many other performances cover all contemporary styles (indie, rock, post-rock, electronica...) performed by local bands and artists. Procesiones de Semana Santa Durante las fiestas de Semana Santa, la ciudad de Bilbao descubre su fervor religioso con unas concurridas procesiones. Este año comenzarán el 23 de marzo y concluirán el 1 de abril. La Semana Santa bilbaína se caracteriza por su seriedad y su austeridad. Son 13 las procesiones que recorren las arterias de la ciudad durante 10 días. Cada una tiene su propia idiosincrasia y varía según los barrios y las calles por las que sale y según los maravillosos pasos que porta. En total, se suman a esta tradición más de 3.000 cofrades.

Cuenta la historia que las procesiones de Bilbao son anteriores a su fundación en 1300. En lo referente a las procesiones penitenciales, se realizaban también antes de la fundación de la Cofradía de la Santa Vera Cruz, en 1554, cuando el Ayuntamiento le encarga la organización de las procesiones penitenciales que se venían celebrando en la Villa. Las atractivas procesiones de la Semana Santa bilbaína tienen, por tanto, 464 años. 42

Holy Week Processions During the Holy Week celebrations, the city of Bilbao reveals its religious fervour with its busy processions. This year they will start on 23 March and will end on 1 April. Holy Week in Bilbao is characterised by its seriousness and austerity. 13 processions march through the city’s streets during 10 days. Each one of them has its own idiosyncrasy and varies depending on the neighbourhood it departs from and on the fantastic floats it carries. In total, more than 3000 brotherhood members participate in this tradition.

History tells us that Bilbao’s processions date back to before the city was founded in the year 1300. As for the penitential processions, they were also carried out before the Santa Vera Cruz Brotherhood was founded in 1554, when the City Council commissioned the organisation of the penitential processions that had been celebrated in the city. Balmaseda y su increíble Pasión Viviente Balmaseda, la primera Villa de la provincia de Bizkaia, será de nuevo uno de los destinos elegidos por miles de personas y muchos de nuestros visitantes durante esta Semana Santa 2018. Tal y como tiene lugar desde finales del siglo XIX, en esta localidad se representa la célebre Pasión Viviente que narra las últimas horas de la vida de Jesús. El Jueves Santo (29 de marzo) por la noche y el de Viernes Santo (30 de marzo) en horario de mañana, la población de Balmaseda, municipio a 32 kilómetros de Bilbao, se vuelca en la celebración de una representación viviente de enorme realismo que se desarrolla en las mismas calles y pla-
zas de la localidad. Toman parte, tras siete meses de ensayos, alrededor de 350 actores y hay 650 personas involucradas en el Vía Crucis, en su mayor parte habitantes del pueblo. Son unas 50.000 las personas que asisten cada año a Balmaseda para presenciar la procesión de los pasos con los romanos y los penitentes cargando las cruces, también la representación de la Última Cena, la captura de Jesús, el ahorcamiento de Judas, el juicio de Jesús ante Pilatos, la flagelación, el encuentro con la Virgen María y con María Magdalena, el Vía Crucis y la Crucifixión, momento este en el que algunos de los presentes no pueden reprimir las lágrimas.

Balmaseda and its incredible Live Passion Balmaseda, the first Burgh in Biscay, will be one of the destinations chosen by thousands of people and by many of our visitors during the Holy Week of 2018. As has happened since the late 19th century, in this town they represent the famous Live Passion that narrates the final hours in Jesus’ life. On the night of Maundy Thursday (29 March) and the morning of Holy Friday (30 March), the population of Balmaseda, a municipality 32 kilometres away from Bilbao, enthusiastically take part in the celebration of a live representation of enormous realism that is carried out in the town’s streets
and squares. After seven months of rehearsals, some 350 actors take part and there 650 people involved in the Via Crucis, mostly locals. Some 50,000 people come to Balmaseda every year to see the procession of the floats with the Romans and the penitents bearing the crosses, as well as the reenactment of the Last Supper, the capture of Jesus, the hanging of Judas, the trial of Jesus before Pilate, the flagellation, the encounter with the Virgin Mary and with Mary Magdalene, the Via Crucis and the Crucifixion, a moment when some of those present cannot hold back their tears.

Ya está de vuelta la competición de remo olímpico que enfrenta, cada año en la Ría de Bilbao, a las tripulaciones de la Escuela de Ingenieros (14 victorias) y de la Universidad de Deusto (23 triunfos), dos prestigiosos centros universitarios que cuentan con más de un siglo de historia en la enseñanza y en el deporte. La Regata será el 23 de marzo a las 18:00 h. La Regata Ingenieros-Deusto, es un acontecimiento tradicional y único en la vida social y deportiva de Bilbao. Las tripulaciones compiten por el honor de dejar grabada su victoria en la bandeja de la Regata, siempre dentro del más estricto espíritu deportivo y universitario. El primer encuentro tuvo lugar el 16 de mayo de 1981 y, a partir de esa fecha, el duelo se renueva sin interrupción cada año. Parten desde Erandio para terminar delante del Ayuntamiento de la ciudad.
Once again we have the Olympic rowing competition that every year brings together on the Bilbao River the crews from the School of Engineers (14 victories) and from the University of Deusto (23 victories), two prestigious universities with over a century of history in teaching and in sports. The Regatta will be on 23 March at 18:00. The Engineers-Deusto Regatta is a traditional and unique event in the social and sports life of Bilbao. The crews compete for the honour of engraving their victory on the Regatta’s platter, always with the strictest sporting and university spirit. It was first held on 16 May 1981, and since then, the duel has taken place every year. They depart from Erandio to finish opposite the city's Town Hall.

Sobre la columna, muy pensativo, se sujetaba el busto de Miguel de Unamuno, obra de Victorio Macho. “Anda, es una escultura”, respondió Miren. “¿Buscamos más?”, preguntó a su hermano. “¡Vamos!”, exclamó Diego.

En lo alto de la escalera Puppy el perro, cubierto de flores, que Koons puso a vigilar la entrada del Museo. “¿Sabés que cambian las flores tres o cuatro veces al año?”, inquirió Miren a un sorprendido Diego. “Pues no, pero a mí me encanta patinar aquí”.
Luego cruzaron el parque, que esconde muchas esculturas tras los árboles y por sus veredas y pérgolas. Desde el Palacio Euskalduna, que también está rodeado por obras escultóricas, comprobaron que la línea en el cielo de Deusto la domina un enorme tigre. Ruge hacia la ría desde la azotea de un edificio de Botica Vieja. “Es el tigre de Lucarini, lleva un siglo ahí”, les aclaró una señora muy amable. “¡Qué pasada!”, dijeron a coro. “¿Os gusta la escultura? ¿Habéis visto La Meninas o La Exorcista de Manolo Valdés?”, les preguntó la señora.
Más adelante, casi entrando al Parque de Doña Casilda, en un lateral del Museo de Bellas Artes, se pararon en el estanque que rodea a la Musa de Arriaga, de Paco Durrio, dorada, con
Miren y Diego se miraron. Y se dieron cuenta de que tendrían que dedicar otro día a disfrutar de las esculturas que se les habían escapado por las calles y plazas de Bilbao.

And the fascinating, shiny and colourful tulips by Jeff Koons, beside the tall column of metallic spheres that Anish Kapoor called Tall Tree and the Eye. At the top of the stairs is Puppy the dog, covered in flowers, which Koons left there to guard the Museum entrance. “Did you know that they change the flowers three or four times a year?”, Miren asked a surprised Diego. “Not really, but I love to skate here”.
Then they crossed the park, which hides many sculptures behind the trees and among its paths and pergolas. At the Euskalduna Conference Centre, which is also surrounded by sculptures, they found that the skyline of Deusto is dominated by an enormous tiger. It roars towards the river from the rooftop of a building in Botica Vieja. “That's the Laucarini tiger, it's been there for a century”, a very friendly woman explained to them. “Amazing!”, they both cried. “Do you like sculptures? Have you seen The Meninas or The Exorcist by Manolo Valdés?”, the woman asked them.
Further ahead, almost in Doña Casilda Park, at the side of the Museum of Fine Arts, they stopped at the pond that surrounds the Musa de Arriaga, by Paco Durrio; golden, with the lyre in
Miren and Diego looked at each other. And they realised that they would have to spend another day enjoying the sculptures they had missed in the squares and streets of Bilbao. 55

Salimos del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao, desde la gran escultura de Oteiza al borde la Ría. De ahí, atravesamos el paseo completo del Campo Volantín y de la Universidad de Deusto. Pasamos en este inicio por los puentes Zubizuri, Pedro Arrupe y Deusto. Después, corremos hacia la otra orilla de la Ría. Aquí está el único repecho del circuito, el del Puente Euskalduna, mientras vemos la Grúa Carola. Rodeamos el Palacio Euskalduna para conectar con Abandoibarra, el precioso paseo que enlaza en uno de sus tramos el Museo Marítimo Ría de Bilbao con el Museo Guggenheim Bilbao. Vamos de nuevo paralelos a la Ría. Disfrutando de Bilbao. Y llegamos al Muelle de Ripa para girar a la izquierda y volver al punto de partida del Ayuntamiento. Hemos hecho 11 kilómetros de un 58
recorrido inolvidable que, si estáis bien preparados, podéis realizar en menos de una hora. Y después… toca una ducha reparadora. Este recorrido también se puede empezar desde hoteles que están en el Campo Volantín como el NH Collection Ría de Bilbao, el Conde Duque, el Barceló Bilbao Nervión, el Bilbao Plaza, y desde otros del lado opuesto de la Ría como el Meliá Bilbao, el Gran Hotel Domine, el Collection Villa de Bilbao, el López de Haro, el Hotel Miró, el Hotel Abando o el Mercure Bilbao Jardines de Albia. También quedan cerca de este recorrido el Petit Palace Arana, el Sercotel Coliseo Bilbao, el Hotel Carlton, el Ercilla, el Ilunion, el Silken Indautxu o el Hotel Zenit Bilbao.

We depart from the City Hall of Bilbao, from the large sculpture by Oteiza on the edge of the river. From there, we go along the entire length of Campo Volantín and the University of Deusto. At this initial stage we pass by the Zubizuri, Pedro Arrupe and Deusto bridges. Afterwards, we run towards the other bank of the river. Here we find the only slope, Euskalduna bridge, while we see the Carola Crane. We surround the Euskalduna Conference Centre to connect with Abandoibarra, the beautiful path that links the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao at one of its sections. We are now parallel to the river again. Enjoying Bilbao. And we reach the Ripa Quay to turn left and return to the starting point o the City Hall. We have completed 11 kilometres of an unfor-
gettable itinerary that, if you’re well prepared, can be done in less than an hour. And then... It’s time for a relaxing shower. This itinerary can also be started from the hotels that are on Campo Volantín such as the NH Collection Ría de Bilbao, the Conde Duque, the Barceló Bilbao Nervión, the Bilbao Plaza, and from others on the other side of the river such as the Meliá Bilbao, the Gran Hotel Domine, the Collection Villa de Bilbao, the López de Haro, the Hotel Miró, the Hotel Abando or the Mercure Bilbao Jardines de Albia. OH! TAKU Oh! Taku, en la calle Heros 14, es uno de los lugares de moda en la ciudad, uno de los preferidos para los amantes del Ramen. De la mano de Daniel Lomana, chef del afamado Kuma (también de Bilbao), transita de boca en boca la preparación en este local del Ramen, un indispensable en la gastronomía japonesa. Según el chef, cada Ramen es personal y diferente y cada uno de ellos esconde su propia receta secreta. En Japón dicen que este plato produce felicidad, y esto es lo que pretenden trasladar desde el Oh! Taku, donde despuntan el Chintan Ramen, Paitan Ramen o Mazesoba. También hay aperitivos como las judías de soja con sal, la ensalada de pepino, el Baoh! Taku, un bao de panceta de cerdo aderezado con salsa hoisin. ¡Otra gran experiencia!
