Spread of the Covid virus during 2020

There was only one story in 2020 - Covid-19. There was no country, no inhabited island, no continent, no community, spared the spread of the infection.

For the underground construction industry, all projects have had to cope with the imposed pandemic control lock downs and regulations. Social distancing, occupational health restrictions and supply chain disruptions have caused inevitable production and progress slow downs and cost increases. Nonetheless, projects continued and that is a credit to the managers and teams of workers who have carried on.

In this eleventh edition of the TunnelTalk Annual Review the progress of major projects around the world is recorded and industry news and developments are reported.

The new TunnelTalk Focus sections concentrate on TBM selection, nuclear waste management, hydro developments, concrete linings and NATM/SCL/SEM projects.
