1. You will need to look up your hardiness zone, which is based on average temperatures and frost dates. 2. Once you have this information, you’ll be able to buy plants that are specifically suited to your region. Look on the back of seed packages or in gardening books to determine which zones a given plant will thrive in. 3. Typically native plants will be best suited to your local environment, but non-natives just need to match up with the map in order to survive.
