A Notice from the West Australian Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation (trading as Yokai) Yokai members and others with an association with the Mogumber Mission–Moore River Native Settlement are invited to join us on Commemoration Day 2020, to honour those with us, and those who have recently passed away. Commemoration Day will also celebrate work completed on the Mogumber Mission Virtual Reality Project, and other activities such as photo sharing/scanning, morning tea, along with the Memorial Luncheon. Ricky Michael: Its all about perspective by Sarah Regan Artist Richard (Ricky) Michael is well known for his creative talents and has worked with a variety of media over many years. Before the COVID-19 shutdown, Ricky often used to work on his art in the common room area at Tuart Place. On one occasion, I noticed Ricky working on the picture below – which is his representation of an event that occurred during his childhood at Wandering Mission. We discussed the significance of pictures, like this one, being a window into his early history and his time at Wandering. Ricky encouraged me to contribute

to the picture but, lacking any artistic skills, I was very hesitant to do so! Ricky was very patient and encouraging, and told me to “draw it like you see it in your mind”. He then took time to teach me about perspective, shading and scale. Ricky also spent time with Tuart Place volunteers, chatting about art and inviting them to contribute to his picture.
