The Aristocrat of Bands Since 1979, Graves has continued to build the band’s legacy. The Aristocrat of Bands has shared its characteristic precision and distinctly soulful style with people throughout the country and in foreign lands. Students who achieve membership in the Aristocrat of Bands adhere to those standards today. Noted as one of the finest and most spectacular university bands in the United States, the Aristocrats are the featured attraction during pregame and half-time performances at all home games and at most out-of-town competitions. Still in demand for halftime performances, parades and other special events, the band’s recent special appearances include a spot in the 2000 CBS Thanksgiving Day parade, performing with country music artists Big & Rich for the 2005 CMT Music Awards, the Nashville Symphony’s 2006 presentation of Porgy and Bess, and halftime performances for Tennessee Titans games. In January of 1993, the Aristocrat of Bands participated in the presidential inaugural parade for President Bill Clinton, marching in the streets of Washington, D.C. The band returned to Washington four years later for President Clinton’s second inauguration celebration. This year, the tradition will continue. Audiences will be thoroughly entertained by the band’s unique marching style and musical versatility. Graves is assisted by assistant band directors Reginald McDonald, James Sexton, and Sean Daniels, majorette coordinator Judy Fenton- Gentry, office manager Michelle Allen, secretary Melva Tate, announcer Ernie Allen, media specialist Cass Teague and instrument repair technician James Pitts.
