Gambing report released: win some, lose more
The results of an inquiry into online gambling and its impacts on those experiencing gambling harm by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs has been tabled.
“Australians are the biggest losers in the world when it comes to gambling,” Committee Chair Peta Murphy said.
The report recommended the Australian Government develop and implement a comprehensive national strategy on online gambling harm reduction, and more independent research and improved data collection.
“Gambling advertising and simulated gambling through video games, is grooming children and young people to gamble and encourages riskier behaviour,” Ms Murphy said.
The report and the Committee’s complete list of recommendations can be accessed via the inquiry website at https://www.aph.gov. au/Parliamentary_ Business/Committees/ House/Social_Policy_ and_Legal_Affairs/ Onlinegamblingimpacts
