Southern Districts Spartans women’s team are showing they mean business with a win, 66-56, over the top seeded team, Northside Wizards, in Round 14 of the NBL1 North competition last Sunday afternoon.

Spartans guard, Jessica McDowell White, played the whole game and had a doubledouble with 10 points and 12 assists.

Other games results – Darwin Salties played

Men’s results for Salties were losses to Logan (97-75) and Ipswich (106-105) but they got a win last Friday against Roar, 117-93.

Top seed Gold Coast had a convincing win against North Gold Coast, 115-88.

Rockhampton

Cyclones headed north to play Townsville and Cairns and the women’s team had convincing wins against Flames (67-47) and Dolphins (91-60).

The Cyclones defence was smothering and both home teams couldn’t handle it with home team scorers in the low – Flames guard, Indiah Bowyer, had 10 points and for the Dolphins, both Shaneice Swain and Leichan ‘LJ’ Williams

Cairns Marlins had a scare and nearly lost to lowly placed Rockhampton Rockets but they managed to score in the last 10 seconds of the game to win, 91-90.

Marlins moved into the top four on the ladder.

Townsville Heat finally got another win, 101-69, against the Rockets. Guard, Michael Cedar, was consistent and collected 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.

It was a memorable night for the Heat as they hadn’t won a game since Round 3.

This weekend the NBL1 will celebrate Indigenous communities with the First Nations Round as part of NAIDOC Week.
