Doyle Passi, an avid Cronulla Sharks fan, was excited when the team from Sutherland

Mr Passi has many relatives on Mer and other islands, and in Cairns and Townsville.

“I have barracked for the Sharks for a long time and love them,” he said.

The Sharks ended up losing the hard fought encounter by 27-18.

Even though the Sharks went down Mr Passi expected the side to string together many wins in coming weeks after they finished second on the ladder in 2022.

Kane Namnie said he was a big Penrith Panthers follower.

“I think the Panthers can go on and win their third premiership in a row,” he said.
