Susan was born in Ireland in 1979 and grew up (and still resides) in Malahide, Co. Dublin. She achieved an NCVA Certificate in Art and Design and a Diploma in Interior Architecture and Design. Susan started painting in watercolour from 2002. After a few years, she decided to change direction to oil paintings specialising in still life. Susan exhibited in Dublin and Cork and she is proud to have many of her works in private collections worldwide as far a-field as England, Germany, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Canada and Australia. “Taking the old, broken, unwanted and often forgotten everyday objects, my ambition through painting is to capture character and beauty, transforming the usual into something unique and wonderful. With many years spent drawing and watercolour painting my current work in oils has evolved and developed into a style that is very identifiable, clear and detailed. Exploring light, colour, texture and tone is an essential part of my painting. Through my work I want the simple things to stand out, the not-sopretty to be beautiful and everyday objects to shine.” Open daily from 10am to 4.30pm Admission is Free. All welcome.

NoCrows, formed in 2005, is a dynamic folk orchestra. Their growing output of original material reflects its diverse musical roots, from Irish traditional to Latin rumba, classical, jazz, rock and Balkan music. Audiences have been astonished by the unequalled width of the band’s original repertoire, from delicate Irish airs to Russian Gypsy mayhem, from Catalan Jota to original songs in many styles with lush string arrangements. The musical mix reflects the folk traditions of the various members but also a lifetime of experience of the various players involved across many genres of music.

The Frank and Walters are out on the road for a series of intimate acoustic gigs.

NoCrows are; Felip Carbonell, Ray Coen, Anna Houston, Eddie Lee, Oleg Ponomarev & Steve Wickham. Their 3rd album, ‘On the Moon’, had more than 20 guests including Sharon Shannon, David Lyttle, Haig Yazdjan & Cali. They have toured the world, confirming their exhilarating live reputation far beyond Ireland. NoCrows latest live album ‘Escape’ is a combination of fan favourites, new tunes and collaborations with Lisa Lambe and Martin Tourish. “Escape captures in glorious technicolour some of the heat and light that is NoCrows …fearless and forever adventurous in their quest for musical expression. A glorious melee that lures the listener in from the get-go.” Irish Times Oct 2019

With a back catalogue of hundreds of songs penned over three decades, the band will be playing all your favourites in all their acoustic glory. Paul also shares some of the stories behind the songs and anecdotes from the hippy diddly crazy world of life in one of Ireland’s most enduring bands. Expect to hear hits such as ‘After All’ and ‘Fashion Crisis Hits New York’ coupled with timeless classics like ‘How Can I Exist’ and ‘Landslide’. Paul said “It’s been a while since we’d done any acoustic gigs so we’ve dusted off our acoustic guitars and I can’t wait to share the songs and stories with our fans, old and new” Recently the band captured a whole new audience when their ‘90’s hit single ‘After All’ featured on the cult comedy show ‘The Young Offenders’ and their recent single featured Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy doing a voiceover on the track ‘Stages’. Don’t miss them up-close-and-acoustic at the SEAC. Tickets are limited, please book early in advance to avoid disappointment!

I am often asked “where do you get your material from?” The truth is really that I try to see the funny in everything.

Following her highly celebrated debut album ‘Carry The Day’ to rapturous acclaim, Aoife Scott releases her much anticipated second album ‘Homebird’ in January 2020.

My mother died in March 2019 and of course it was sad and grief can be tough sometimes but I saw a lot of funny in that too. Since death comes to us all and grief is something most of us will experience I thought there must be plenty of people who would like that funny to be shared. Also I did a show about my Dad being sick back in 2010 and I couldn’t face my mother in the afterlife because I know her first question would be “your Father got a show, how come I didn’t get one?”

Produced by 12 time Grammy Award winner, banjo and guitar virtuoso Ron Block (Alison Krauss & Union Station & Oh Brother Where Art Thou), this album was recorded in Nashville and Dublin. ‘HomeBird” is an impressive collaboration featuring the best of Irish folk musicians and Grammy award winning Bluegrass musicians including Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan and producer Ron Block. It is in many ways a turning point in her musical legacy.

I think it’s tougher to lose your mum. My Dad was best supporting actor. My mother was the actress in a leading role. You are never ready when the star of the show dies. So this is a show about My mother. It’s a show about motherhood and sacrifice, anxiety and grief, the mistakes you make as a mother and a son and the hard road to forgiveness and finally it’s about loss, grief and the chaos that surrounds it. Where do I get my material from? Life and death!

Born into the legendary Black Family, Aoife is steadily rising to the top of the traditional and folk music scene, and has long enjoyed success as an established artist in her own right. Fragile and ethereal one minute and strong and vibrant the next, her dynamic and profound vocals explore the emotional depths of her lyrics, leaving the audience entranced. Aoife has a unique sound, her music has a broad creative scope but is largely influenced by her own roots in folk and traditional Irish music. Recent Accolades include Best Folk Act at the Irish Post Music Awards (IRE) and Emerging Artist of the Year at the Live Ireland Awards (US) in June 2018. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Attentive and quiet, Christian (Franz Rogowski) is a new hire assigned to the “Beverages” aisle in an East German hypermarket, where he learns the ropes from the gruff, burly veteran Bruno (Peter Kurth). Peering through the shelves, he is drawn to Marion (Sandra Hüller), who works in the “Sweet Goods” aisle. While mastering the light touch and meticulous timing required to manage a forklift, Christian bonds with Bruno and flirts with Marion. But his gentleness is shadowed by murky hints of a less peaceful past: he is covered from neck to wrist in densely-inked tattoos. In the Aisles is an understated, concise story about frustrated hopes and desires, and how we long for the freedom to forge our own destiny. Winner - Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, Berlin International Film Festival 2018 Winner - Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, German Film Awards 2018 Director: Thomas Stuber, Duration: 125 mins Language: German (with English subtitles) Cert: 12 (Germany)

Now a four-piece, with percussionist Dave McCune adding extra sparkle and energy, the combination of Maura Vambeck on vocals, David Mulligan on vocals and guitars, and Paul Enright on keyboards brings Joni Mitchell’s music to a whole new level. While their performances are true to the originals and to the spirit of Joni, they succeed in bringing something new, alive and fresh - making the genius of Joni’s words and music more present and relevant to us today. By recounting wonderful stories between songs, and highlighting lyrics from the songs - the show becomes more than just the captivating and beautifullyperformed songs - Maura brings us on a magical tour through Joni’s life, from her early and troubled beginnings, to the Blue album, through her various and famous lovers, the Woodstock years, acute observations on American life, her heartbreaks and joys, and the poignant story of her daughter. We navigate around musical genres too - as Joni did weaving from folk to jazz, pop and even orchestral. If you know a bit of Joni, you will love this. If you know no Joni, you’re in for a treat.

This workshop is designed for beginners and those who have some experience with needle work.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh is an award-winning traditional singer and musician from Corca Dhuibhne, Co. Kerry. A leading exponent of the sean nós style, her repertoire also includes songs from a wide variety of folk and contemporary sources. Her childhood in West Kerry saw her immersed in a rich cultural environment and vital living tradition, which was to be hugely influential on the foundation of her distinctive vocal and instrumental sound.

Over the 5-hour workshop you will learn several 3D stitches and how to compose them on a fabric with printed designs. Gwen O’Dowd began exhibiting in the mid 1980s. Her formal concerns have always been rooted deeply in the tradition of landscape painting. Yet the specific locales from which she has drawn inspiration, the modes of addressing them and the metaphoric import of the resulting series of paintings have varied considerably over the years. Among the aspects of the landscape O’Dowd has registered over the past decades were the ecological devastation of the Gulf War, the epic Grandeur of the Grand Canyon, the mythically sexualised landscape of coastal Ireland, the elemental force of the Waves and most recently the ‘Humanising’ of the bird life that surrounds her. Some important group exhibitions in which she participated in recent years were ‘Poetic Land – Political Landscape’ which toured Britain. ’Re:Dressing Caitlin’ contemporary works from Irish Women artists and ‘Eire – Land’ both at the McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College. Gwen O’Dowd is represented in the collections of the Arts Council of Ireland, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and in many corporate and private collections in Ireland, USA, Europe and Japan. We are delighted to have Gwen exhibit a series of prints in our Easter Snow Gallery during April and May.

Fri 3 Apr Doors: 8pm Commences: 8.30pm Gen Ad: €13 (in advance) €15 (at the door) Concessions: €10 (in advance) €12 (at the door) Chris Smither fans will have witnessed the raw talent that is Matt Lorenz (aka The Suitcase Junket) when he opened for and accompanied Chris at his last sold-out SEAC performance. The latest album from The Suitcase Junket, Mean Dog, Trampoline (produced by Steve Berlin) is populated by characters in various states of reverie: leaning on jukeboxes, loitering on dance floors, lying on the bottoms of empty swimming pools in the sun. Despite being deeply attuned to the chaos of the world, singer/songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist Matt Lorenz imbues those moments with joyful wonder, an endless infatuation with life’s most subtle mysteries. And as its songs alight on everything from Joan Jett to moonshine to runaway kites, Mean Dog, Trampoline makes an undeniable case for infinite curiosity as a potent antidote to jadedness and despair. In creating the album, Lorenz pulled from a fantastically patchwork sonic palette, shaping his songs with elements of jangly folk, fuzzed-out blues, oddly textured psych-rock. Mean Dog, Trampoline rightly preserves The Suitcase Junket’s unkempt vitality, but ultimately emerges as his most powerfully direct album so far. “A living, breathing, throat-singing, road-tested, avantgarde, one-man-band who is in a state of perpetual motion… gutsy, fuzzed-out, groove-laden psych rock.” NPR Music

Furniture Up-Cycling Workshop

The Biggest Little Farm

Workshop / Ceardlann

Cinema / Scannánaíocht

Sun 19 Apr 10am - 16.30pm €90 (includes materials)

Thu 23 Apr

Join Marianne for this fun furniture revamping workshop. All you need to bring is a small piece of furniture which you would like to revamp on the day.

‘The Biggest Little Farm’ has charmed audiences and critics alike with its chronicle of one couple’s trial-anderror attempts to build a farm in harmony with nature.

Marianne will bring all materials which include brushes, rollers, over 30 colour choices from Colourtrend Paints, Stencils, Wallpaper etc.

It all began with a dog named Todd. Filmmaker John Chester and his wife, Molly, a private chef, promised their rescue dog a happy life, but their Los Angeles apartment just isn’t cutting it. So the couple decides to take a leap of faith and realize a long-held dream. Locating a patch of land outside the city, and a veteran farmer to shepherd them through the process, they set about building Apricot Lane Farms. As the couple faces a seemingly endless cascade of challenges from weather, predators, infestations, and disease, John documents their setbacks and progress over eight years.

During the workshop participants will learn how to revamp a piece of furniture from start to finish. This includes prepping and priming the furniture, coming up with a design, painting and learning various techniques such as decoupage, stencilling, glazing, distressing and geometric designs. End result – a beautiful unique piece of furniture.

Kern return to the SEAC with their eagerly awaited new album, ‘The Left and The Leaving, a showcase of the band’s unusual mix of personalities: Barry Kieran a champion fiddler, steeped in the raw, pure music of Oriel; Brendan McCreanor, an uilleann piper of rare passion and versatility whose distinctive playing is at once both modern and rooted in tradition and SJ McArdle, a critically acclaimed songwriter and singer who has previously toured and recorded internationally. Kern’s music is a distillation of skillfully executed traditional elements combined with fresh and often raw contemporary perspectives. The eclectic weave of their music presents thrilling interpretations of the music of the past and blistering, heart-wrenching new songs and compositions. ‘The Left and the Leaving’ was produced by Trevor Hutchinson and features the Lúnasa/Waterboys man on double bass throughout. There are also appearances by Dónal O’Connor and Eamonn Moloney. Kern have been hard at work since the extensive press and radio coverage which accompanied the first album’s release, touring all over Ireland. The band have also played shows in Germany, Canada and the US, including at Milwaukee Irish Fest and Folk Alliance International in Montréal.
