Expressway Trucks becomes first Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealer in Ontario

Volvo Trucks North America has recently designated Expressway Trucks as a Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer, signifying that it is ready to support customers interested in adding Volvo VNR Electrics to their local and regional distribution, pickup and delivery, and food and beverage distribution routes. The dealership’s Waterloo location is the first to be certified in Ontario and is ideally located near Highway 401, one of the busiest traffic corridors in Canada.

Volvo hosted Penske Truck Leasing executives at the VTNA Customer Center in Dublin, Va. to commemorate the delivery of the 25,000th truck in a partnership that has spanned the last two decades.

Truck No. 25,000 is a VNL 300, featuring the D13TC engine designed for fuel savings and CO2 reductions. Penske has outfitted nearly 2,000 trucks with Volvo Dynamic Steering, a feature that uses an electric motor above the hydraulic steering gear to provide additional torque when necessary. The system receives input 2,000 times/s through sensors monitoring yaw rate, steering angle, wheel speed and the driver’s own action. This provides added safety in crosswind, heavy-braking, pothole collisions, rapid tire deflation or sidewall failure.

Through its collaboration with Pilot Company, Volvo will help identify which of the existing Pilot and Flying J travel centers should be prioritized for high-performance charging infrastructure based on current and anticipated battery-electric truck deployment volume, customers charging needs and patterns, and the availability of federal and state funding to support capital costs. The Volvo VNR Electric, which has a current range of up to 275 miles (ca. 443 km), was designed by VTNA to enable fleets to perform urban and regional distribution with zero-tailpipe emissions. Pilot Company operates a network of more than 750 travel centers throughout North America, covering 44 U.S. states and six Canadian provinces. The charging network will be open to heavy-duty vehicles of all brands.
