RICHARD SHAUGHNESSY

Strength & Conditioning | 18th season at TROY Auburn, 1989

Richard Shaughnessy enters his 18th season as an assistant coach with the Troy University football staff, and as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 17 intercollegiate athletic teams at Troy University. As a testament to Shaughnessy’s success as a strength and conditioning coach, he was inducted as a Master Strength Coach by the College of Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) in May of 2009. This is the highest honor awarded for individuals in the field of strength and conditioning. A certified strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Shaughnessy has been instrumental in developing stronger, quicker and more durable athletes at Troy University. He is a certified member of the College Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), the National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE) and is a club coach for the United States Weightlifting Federation. He is the state director for both the NSCA and NASE. Shaughnessy has been involved with powerlifting for the past 32 years, and has spent the last 22 working with human performance.

Joe St. Pierre is in his first season with Troy, as the media relations graduate assistant. St. Pierre is charged with covering the men’s basketball, men’s tennis and soccer programs at Troy. Prior to Troy, St. Pierre spent the previous year as an intern in the sports information department at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he worked to promote all of its 24 varsity programs. While at RIT, St. Pierre worked closely with the 2012 National Champion women’s hockey team, as well as the men’s lacrosse team that advanced to the national quarterfinals. A native of Salem, N.H., St. Pierre graduated from RIT in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in applied statistics. He served as a student assistant in the sports information department at RIT for three years, while working for the student-run biweekly sports television show, RIT SportsZone. St. Pierre currently resides in Troy.

Shaughnessy also works with student-athletes after the conclusion of their collegiate playing careers, helping many to move on to the professional level. Over the past 13 years, more than 80 of Shaughnessy’s student-athletes have had the opportunity to compete at the next level following the conclusion of their careers at Troy University.

In October of 2003, Shaughnessy was selected by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as one of 18 “Elite” Strength Coaches in the world. The inaugural program created by the NSCA honors achievements and competencies of strength and conditioning specialists by assessing their practical and applied experience, along with their interests and contributions to the profession of strength and conditioning. Shaughnessy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance from Auburn University in 1989, his Master’s degree in Education from Troy University in 1998 and his Education Specialist from Troy University in 2000. He is married to the former Dr. Candice Howard and the couple resides in Troy.

Administrative Assistant | 13th season at TROY

LeAnn Brooks-Register begins her 13th season as the basketball secretary to the Troy University men’s basketball program. Register’s primary responsibilities include coordinating all events for head coach Don Maestri, working with assistant coaches in their recruiting efforts and maintaining the men’s basketball office. Register is a life-long resident of Pike County. Register is also the proud aunt of Cody & Justin Brooks who both attend Banks School. Register resides in Troy with her husband Justin and their 3-year old daughter Averie.

ALYSON GRAMLEY

Athletic Trainer | Ninth season at TROY Troy, 1999

Alyson Gramley is beginning her ninth season as an athletic trainer for Troy and the men’s basketball program. She served as the athletic trainer for the volleyball team from 2005-07 and has been with the football program since 2008.

Gramley earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Troy in 1999, then spent time teaching science at Pike Liberal Arts in Troy and Dixie Academy in Louisville, Ala. Following her teaching stint, she returned to Troy as a graduate assistant in the athletic training department. While there she worked on her master’s degree in education, which she earned in 2004. Gramley has one daughter, Meredith. They reside in Troy.
