Maurea “Mo” Crain enters his third season with the Trojans, after serving as Personal Data the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Tyler Junior College. Born: December 29, 1970 Crain’s coaching experience includes serving as the Defensive Line/RecruitHometown: Waco, Texas ing Coordinator at Vladosta State University from 2002-04, where he helped the EDUCATION Blazers win the National Championship in 2004. High School: University Maurea (pronounced Mo-yay), is from Waco, Texas, where most of his family BA, Political Science, University of Iowa, 1994 still lives. At Valdosta State, his teams were 34-4 in three years and Crain was COACHING EXPERIENCE part of a National Championship and two National Championship appearance 2006-present, Troy University (coaching the MVP nose guard). He has also coached seven First and Second Defensive Line (2006-present) Team All-American Defensive Linemen, three CFL players and one NFL Defensive 1998-2001, 2004-06, Tyler Junior College Lineman. Def. Coordinator/LB (2004-06) Crain started Def. Line/Special Teams (1998-2001) his coaching 2002-04, Valdosta State University career at Univer Defensive Line/Recruting (2002-04) sity High in Waco, 2001-02, Baylor University where he coached Offensive Graduate Assistant defensive line and 1995-98, University High School (Waco) special teams from Defensive Line 1995-98. During his PLAYING EXPERIENCE tenure, University University of Iowa, 1990-94 High earned a dis Defensive Tackle trict and area title, GAME DAY LOCATION: Field and was a state RECRUITING RESPONSIBILITY semifinalist in Class East Georgia, Texas Junior Colleges , Atlanta 4A. and Jacksonville (FL) Crain moved to Tyler Junior College for his first stint as an assistant coach, working with the defensive line and special teams from 1998-2001. During his first stop, he helped the club to a Southwest Junior College Conference title and victory in the Red River Bowl. He moved on to serve as a graduate assistant at Baylor University from 2001-02 under then head coach Kevin Steele,working with the offensive line. Before beginning his coaching career, Crainwas a four-year letterman at the University of Iowa under coach Hayden Fry from 1989-93. He participated in the 1991 Rose Bowl, 1991 Holiday Bowl, 1992 Kickoff Classic and the 1993 Alamo Bowl. He was also a two letter winner in track. Crain earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa in 1994. He is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association.
