STAFF | SUPPORT STAFF Steve Stroud Sr. Associate Athletics Director / External Affairs Steve Stroud joined the Troy staff as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs in April 2014. Stroud joined the Troy staff following three years in a similar role at the College of Charleston where he was responsible for fundraising, sponsorship sales, marketing and promotions, ticket sales, operations and sport supervision. During his time at Charleston, both annual giving and sponsorship sales increased by more than 50 percent and the athletics department launched its first comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Prior to his stint at the College of Charleston, Stroud spent three and a half years as Associate Athletic Director at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Prior to his appointment in Kansas City, Stroud directed the annual giving program at the University of Memphis while serving as Assistant Director of Athletics. Stroud also served as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at the University of Miami (Fla.), prior to the Hurricanes’ move from the BIG EAST to the ACC. A native of Marietta, Ga., Stroud earned a business degree from the University of Georgia in 2000 and completed his master’s degree in sports administration from St. Thomas University in 2001. He and his wife, Deirdre, have three children, Carter, Dashel and Hadley.

Rebecca Whetstone Assistant Athletics Director / Student-Athlete Services Rebecca Whetstone joined the Troy staff in January 2011 as a graduate assistant and was promoted to her role of Assistant AD/Student-Athlete Services in 2014 after serving as an academic advisor. After graduating with her masters degree in counseling and psychology from Troy University, she transitioned to the role of academic advisor, overseeing the Trojan Tutor Center. In her current role, Whetstone is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Trojan Academic Center which houses approximately 400 Trojan student-athletes, while overseeing five academic advisors, a graduate assistant and an extensive tutoring staff. She also works directly with the Troy football, men’s basketball and women’s golf programs. A member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), Whetstone manages NCAA academic eligibility requirements for Troy’s 16 sports programs. Whetstone received her bachelor’s degree from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada in sport management where she was a four-year captain for the women’s basketball program. She and husband, Gunter, reside in Troy.

James Wright Video Coordinator James Wright begins his first season as the video coordinator for the Troy football team. He joins the Troy staff after one season as a graduate assistant video coordinator at Jacksonville State. Wright spent four years as student assistant in the football video department at South Alabama where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2015. The Slapout, Ala., native lettered in football, baseball, basketball, and soccer at Holtville High School.
