17th Annual Sarah Renee Phillips Memorial Scholarship Run August 27 (Vacaville): Middle school classmates of Sarah Renee Phillips created a memorial garden at Nelson Park among eucalyptus trees for their friend whose young life was cut short in April 2000 at the age of 13. Today Sarah’s Garden is caringly maintained by Kim Woodside (along with the help of Kevin and Max). For the past 17years Glenn Phillips honors his daughter’s memory with a motorcycle run. The run benefits a scholarship fund that Glenn Phillip’s family established at the high school that Sarah would have attended - Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville. It was a beautiful day to honor Sarah and help another young person achieve their academic goals. The ride starts at Miss Darlas (Vacaville) with a brief stop and prayer across town at Sarah’s Garden. Additional stops were to Judy’s Wild Wrangler Saloon (Vacaville), Buckhorn Bar & Grill (Dixon), Road Trip Bar and Grill (Capay) with the final stop at the Moose Lodge #1967 (Vacaville) for a BBQ, raffle and music by Savannah Blue. Memorial runs are emotional and meaningful for loved ones and it is important

for us to show our support as friends. In the words of Rose Kennedy…It has been said, “time heals all wounds”- I do not agree. The wounds remain, in time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone. Article and photos by Terri Hill
