Mac Streher ’13 was a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship program. Seniors Jonathan Castellucci, Justin Davis, Tyler Jutz, Marce Merry, and Joe Pankey were all National Merit Commended students.
Three of Trinity’s seniors took part in The Cochrane Summer Economics Institute (CSEI) last summer, a five week work/study program for rising high school seniors. Bridget McKercher worked at Pediatric Connection, Emily Rawls worked at Carmax, and Maggie Dodson worked at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Mac Strehler ’13 and Tyler Jutz ’13 were nominees for a Jefferson Scholarship at UVA. Mac Strehler ’13 is also a National Merit finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Jonathan Castellucci ’13 took part in The Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service hosted by St. Christopher’s School. The institute is a five-week program dedicated to teaching leadership skills.

Eighteen Trinity junior and senior IB Photography students visited New York City in January accompanied by art teachers Lee Hazelgrove, Meredith Turner, and Allison Fiebert. The trip coincided with the exhibition “Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop” at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. They also visited exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and local galleries.

Six Trinity students, students accompanied by art teacher Meredith Turner and librarian Sarah Greenlee, traveled to Fredericksburg Academy on Saturday January 19th for the first inaugural Student Diversity Conference. The SDC provided an opportunity for students to come together in forums to discuss issues of equity and diversity and participate in activities and sessions designed to foster honest and open dialogue.

IN POETRY…
Megan Martin ’15, Forrest Sprouse ’14, Matthew Whiting ’15 and Sam Parker ’16, participated in Trinity’s first annual Poetry Out Loud contest on December 11 in the Perkinson Arts Center theatre. Sprouse was the winner of the competition and Martin received runner-up. Faculty judges included Rebekah O’Dell, Lee Sprague, and Chet Childress. Sophomore Owen Ayers served as the accuracy judge. Sprouse and Martin went on to compete in the regional competition on February 7 at the Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn (formerly Barksdale Theatre).
IN MUSIC…
Reid Barden ’14, Katie Cantone ’16, Andrew Elgin ’16, Cathryn Levander ’13 and Jenny Zhou ’13 earned All-District band. Zhou and Elgin are also eligible to audition for the All-State band based upon their high placement within their respective sections. Zhou placed first chair alto saxophonist for the second time in her three years of auditioning for this group and Elgin placed third among all of the trombones.
Cathryn Levander ’13 and Josh Hemenway ’16 took part in Virginia Commonwealth University’s annual FluteFest. Participants were nominated by their director and then selected from that pool by the VCU faculty in charge of the event.
On January 26, Trinity’s Fine & Performing Arts Department presented the 21st Cabaret in the Perkinson Arts Center theatre. This year’s production, One-Hit Wonders, showcased some of Trinity’s most talented students and faculty members as they presented a wide selection of musical entertainment.
IN SERVICE…
This year members of the Sword and Shield Club and wrestling team came together to organize the annual holiday food drive. Advisee groups collectively brought in over 700 items for the Suburban Village in Bon Air. Lee Hazelgrove’s advisees led the way, collecting close to 400 of the 700 items.

Faculty News
The Richmond Chapter of US Lacrosse named Margie Vaughan Snead ‘85 to the 2012 Hall of Fame. Last April, she was also named to the College of William and Mary’s Hall of Fame for her contributions to the soccer and lacrosse programs.
Adam and Sarah Banwarth are the proud parents of Caleb Francis Banwarth, born on Wednesday, October 2 at 8:17 a.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 19 ½ inches long.
Amy Tarsovich Caroll ‘98 and her husband Lee Carroll welcomed their first child, Brayden Lee Carroll on December 7, 2012 at 8:01 pm. He weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.
Christina and Bryan Grande welcomed their first child, Haley Anne Grande into the world on August 11th. She weighed 7 pounds at birth.
Chris Mercer and his wife Yvette Coronado welcomed their 9 pound baby boy, Zachary de los Reyes Coronado-Mercer, into the world on October 28, 2012. “He is getting lots of hugs and kisses from his 3-year-old sister Natalia and we are feeling very blessed,” said Mercer.
Taylor D. Mickens, son of Sam and Shelley Mickens, was born on November 27 at 8:02 a.m., weighing 7lbs 15 oz. a was 20 ½ inches long.
