FROM THE
HEAD OF SCHOOL Our daily Discovery Period is a time for exploration outside of the traditional classroom. We meet to organize clubs, to build teams and to foster relationships. It’s a time when we can hone those all-important skills which enable us to listen to each other and work together. I always enjoy opportunities to see how collaboration and character are inextricably linked.
MISSION STATEMENT: Our charge is to challenge Trinity students to discover their paths, develop their talents and strengthen their character within a dynamic academic community.
Recently, I found myself observing a group of students from our Unite Club. As they stood and sat together around a large table, the club members worked together to make a school-wide art project come alive. The students built their project vision by listening and valuing each other’s ideas. In the following week they shared their vision in Chapel and then saw the realization of their dream in the academic building where we all participated in a creative art project that brought our community together. What struck me is not so much the value of the end product, but how the cycle of collaboration builds character and community. It’s the fundamental core of our mission statement. We love to work together, and in the process we allow character to grow. Collaboration builds trust and faith in one another. From trust and faith springs character. This is what makes us want to do better. This is what makes us return a lost item to its owner. This is what makes us become better listeners. We have many names for this collaborative spirit: team, crew, cast, ensemble, group, class. We celebrate this mission-centered partnership and have even made it part of our strategic plan — because it helps develop the potential found in each student and because it builds and strengthens community. At Trinity, we enjoy common experiences, laugh about them, and sometimes shed tears, but through it all, we live it.
