Annual: Trinity 2018

YEAR 8 After a year of challenge and change in 2017, Year 8 in 2018 was a year of consolidation in the transition of our students into Secondary School. The students, having become accustomed to life at Trinity College, were set the challenge to ‘engage’ and embrace the many opportunities offered and to enjoy the demands associated with increased expectation. A highlight for many was the Quest retreat, where senior students in Years 10, 11 and 12 prepared and delivered an immersive experience where the hands-on approach to Christian Service was introduced. A focus on acting to help others was stressed to the cohort and the boys were able to ‘give back’ to the community and develop bonds with the senior students. This spirit of giving was evident throughout the year with Edmund Rice Day, the India Fun Run and the regular support to our charity The Shopfront, providing food and clothing for the homeless. Another notable event was the Grandparents’ Morning Tea, where the boys showed their pride in their School and their family. After the morning was spent touring the College and showcasing our talented boys, we moved to Gibney Hall. The room was abuzz, as both the students and grandparents chatted and indulged in a magnificent morning tea hosted by our wonderful College Auxiliary.

A talented group across many areas, our boys continue to shine. Culturally, over 50 students took part in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, playing numerous instruments, singing with beautiful voices and displaying impressive dance moves. It was a collective effort, rewarded when Trinity College brought home the Zenith Clock for the 15th year in a row. On the sporting field, there were some outstanding performances, with the standouts being the impressive 4 × 100m relay results in both swimming and athletics. A special mention is made of the 4 × 100m athletics relay team, who broke the record for the second year in a row at the PSA Athletics Carnival. I thank the amazing team that works beside me: Ms Alison McKenzie (8.1), Mr Daniel Bateman (8.2), Mr Ben Krizsyk (8.3), Ms Claire Wilson (8.4), Mr Ben Russell (8.5), Ms Anjelica Mallis (8.6), Mrs Lisa Webb (8.7) and Mr Tim Hince. Because of the efforts of these people, Trinity College is an amazing place to be. Their tireless contribution towards the academic and pastoral care of their students is nothing short of amazing! It has been a busy but fulfilling year with opportunities embraced and lessons learnt. I thank the Class of 2022 for a challenging but productive year which gives me great hope for the future, and enthusiasm for what 2019 brings. Ms Amanda Marocchi Head of Year 8

TRINITY COLLEGE ANNUAL 2018

Socially, the boys are beginning to spread their wings, develop relationships and make new friends. We hosted the Mercedes College girls for the inaugural Year 8 Quiz Night, where the boys embraced the theme wearing quirky hats and, as usual, brought their competitive spirit. Some boys also represented Trinity at the Perth College annual social. The maturity displayed at all events impressed everyone and their respect and growing confidence was fantastic to witness.
