Junior School Music Mrs Ann Clarke Music Specialist The Junior School boys have had a busy year of rehearsals and performances in 2015. We began the year with the Junior Vocal Ensemble singing at an Anzac Day ceremony at RSL Care in Menora. This year, students from Year 6 were selected to form a wind ensemble, playing instruments from the brass and woodwind families. Students were selected on their suitability for a particular instrument. Term 1 was spent learning the basics of their instrument, with Terms 2, 3 and 4 attending full ensemble rehearsals. Preparations then continued for the Junior/Middle School Music Night, closely followed by performances at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Each of the Junior School choirs received Honourable Mentions for their performances, with the 5/6 Choir winning the Brigidine Sisters’ Shield for Overall Primary Singing followed by a performance at the winners’ concert at the Perth Concert Hall. Both the String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble continue to grow and improve, with the Year 6 Wind Ensemble concluding the year with a performance at the Junior School Presentation Night. Almost all our Junior School boys participated in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and it is pleasing to report that many of the Junior School choirs received Honourable Mentions. The Junior Vocal Ensemble was the winner of the Liturgical Music Shield. A number of other students competing in individual events also performed particularly well.
