Year 9 The Year 9 cohort has had another outstanding year immersing themselves within the Trinity College community.

Mr Tim Shanassy Head of Year 9

Events started before Term 1 was officially underway when 60 fathers and Year 9 sons spent a busy bee weekend at Camp Kelly in Dwellingup. The weekend was a fantastic success, building relationships within our community whilst working extremely hard in 40 degree heat. A great deal was accomplished over that weekend, erecting large structures, laying paving, landscaping and painting. A huge thank you to all those who participated, especially the staff from Trinity who gave up their weekend to help make it such a success. During Term 1 the Year 9 boys participated in a social event with Mercedes College girls, where the boys hosted and enjoyed a barbecue and listened to our own Year 9 resident DJ, Michael Deli-Benedetti (9.2). In Term 2 our boys participated in the traditional ballroom dancing with Mercedes. The students learnt and refined their ballroom dancing skills over a course of seven weeks to finish with a 1950s themed social. Throughout the dancing program all students conducted themselves impeccably with the staff from Gilkison’s Dance Studio constantly commenting on the group’s enthusiasm and dancing prowess. This year the Year 9 cohort decided to do something special for the community by launching the Charity Committee. Building on the fantastic work the group did raising money for Wheelchairs for Kids we set up a voluntary Charity Committee. The group of boys continued to run events and to assist Brother Olly. The Year 9 boys were also responsible for arranging over eighty participants from the Trinity community who ran in the City to Surf representing Edmund Rice Camps WA. The group raised over $1500 for Edmund Rice Camps, which will be used to help less fortunate children.

It has been lovely to see the boys within our year group stretch out and grasp hold of the plethora of opportunities offered to them at the College. Trinity aims to produce well-rounded students, who will make a difference to society. Our boys strive to contribute to the College through our four pillars of Faith, Academia, Sport and Culture. It has been fantastic seeing our boys make their faith authentic through the act of service to others. Throughout the year, they have been visiting primary schools and serving others less fortunate. Congratulations also to our Year 9 musicians who have been rewarded for their relentless hard work in being part of the winning school at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival for the tenth year in a row and returning victorious from the United States music tour. So many of our boys are performing regularly at a high level as part of our growing dance and drama program. As well as this, it is tremendous to see members of the year group participating at high levels within the sporting pillar, competing at state and national level. As we have come to expect with this group of boys, academically their efforts are excellent, constantly achieving high grades and winning academic awards. The Year 9 boys have been blessed to have the support from an excellent group of pastoral care teachers. Michael Brook (9.1), Barry McKenna (9.2), Christopher Allanson (’91) (9.3), Richard Herrmann (9.4), David Ceccarelli (9.5), Anthony Lunt (9.6) and Jean-Marc Rousset (’69) (9.7). The commitment demonstrated by this group of teachers has been outstanding and the care they have for our students is of the highest standard.

It has been another fantastic year. This group of outstanding young men has so much potential – they are a fine group of young men. Mr Tim Shanassy Head of Year 9 81
