Tribute to Mark Hackett Farewell to Mr Mark Hackett (’75) Head of Junior School As the final student walked through the Trinity gates for 2013 a twelve year vocation for Mark Hackett (’75) as Head of Junior School, drew to a close. Mark has been involved in Catholic Education as an educator for the past 35 years, with the last twelve and a half at Trinity College. Commencing at Trinity as a Year 4 students in 1967, Mark thrived in the Trinity College environment becoming involved in many activities before graduating in 1975. Mark’s successful career in boys education commenced in 1986 with his appointment to Aquinas College where he worked for 13 years – the last seven as the Assistant Head of their Junior School. After a short 18 months break at Queen of Apostles School in Riverton, Mark was appointed Head of the Trinity College Junior School in July 2001, a role that he held for twelve and a half years. When you include Marks own education and the years spent at Aquinas and Trinity he has spent over 34 years in Christian Brothers’ schools – a worthy contribution and he has had a profound effect on the boys who have been under his care. During Marks time at Trinity there have been many changes and we have seen the Junior school go from strength to strength. Under Marks leadership there have been many wonderful events in the Junior School including, Year 7 camps to Canberra, Year 6 camps, Astronomy camps, excellent NAPLAN results, Maths extension programs, introduction of ipads into the Junior School, just to name a few. However it is the boys’ overall education and the preparation of the boys for secondary school that Mark found most satisfying. As Mark leaves Trinity College to pursue some lecturing opportunities at Curtin University (and to work on his Golf Handicap!) we thank him for his valued contribution to the Trinity story and wish him well in his future pursuits.
