Trinity celebrated 50 years in 2012 and the passing of time has not been kind to a few of our buildings.

Mr Michael Burgess Bursar

We are already dealing with issues of concrete cancer; an expensive exercise that will continue for several years. Although development has been occurring on two sides of Trinity College during 2012 we have managed to access our campus without too much disruption. Another science laboratory upgrade has been completed and the biology laboratory work will be done over the 2012/13 summer break. A new fence/wall has been constructed along the western perimeter and a new playground was developed to the east of the Junior School to give a natural shade area and a safer environment for the Junior School students. Further work was completed at Dwellingup (Camp Kelly) and we should see all development works completed in 2014.

In 2012 the Trinity College Board was pleased to present a budget that had a more modest tuition fee increase than previous years, averaging 7.4% over Years 4 to 12. With reduction in government funds Trinity now finances its operations through private income sources, which amounts to 57% of the total income. The Board is hopeful that this level of tuition fee can be maintained, notwithstanding the unknowns of future government education funding decisions.

I would like to acknowledge an increase in philanthropy during 2012 with contributions from various organisations for the benefit of our Indigenous Scholarship and Refugee Bursary programs. These organisations include Programmed, Colibri Pty Ltd, Office Max, TOBA, Trinity College Foundation, AIEF and IYLP. Together they have helped provide an education to 11 students and provided the services of a homework centre.

This year the Trinity College Foundation launched its Refugee Bursary program with its first recipient in Year 7. This assistance will continue throughout this student’s time at Trinity, thus fulfilling the Trinity College Foundation objective to always ensure that Trinity can meet its commitments to the poor and marginalised.

Although there have been some staff changes within Administration, Maintenance, Grounds, and amongst technicians, teacher assistants and at the IT Help Desk during 2012, the members of staff in these areas remain committed to assisting and supporting the education program at Trinity College. Without them the leadership team and the teachers would not be able to provide daily opportunities to our students; I thank them on your behalf.
