T
he season saw a new look First XI with only three players returning from last year. The preseason training and trials sorted out the other twelve players required to make up the First XI squad and this year there was a balance with three from Year 10, six from Year 11 and six from Year 12. The coach, Steve Neville, was initially concerned with the ability of this group to play together as a team, but his fears proved to be unfounded as the First XI won five games in a row to top the table half way through the season. Hale School were also undefeated at this stage of the competition and so the round six game against Hale, and played at Hale school, effectively became our grand final. In a tight, closely fought and sometimes controversial game Trinity lost 3 – 2. Despite winning three more games Trinity finished the season in second place, two points behind Hale School. The First XI also competed in the Champions Schools Cup competition which is open to every school in Western Australia. After making their way through the round robin stage they were drawn against Corpus Christi College in the knockout stage. With the score at 2 – 2 after normal time the result was eventually decided on penalties with Trinity losing 4 – 3.
As this was my last year as First XI Team Manager I would like to thank all the players for making this an exciting and enjoyable season. Their passion for the game and their camaraderie was excellent and at all times they showed the true Trinity Spirit. My thanks also go to Steve Neville, who coached the boys in the finer skills of the game. Steve is also retiring after three years in the role but is leaving the team in the experienced hands of Jamie Harnwell for the 2007 season. Finally, thank you to the wonderful parents whose enthusiasm and volume of support on the sidelines never faltered. The other soccer teams had mixed results this season; the 9A, 8B and 8C teams won their competitions; the 2nd XI, 9B and 8A teams finished second; the 9C team finished third, and all other teams finished fourth. I would like to thank all the staff members whose enthusiasm and coaching skills have helped to achieve these results.
