wenty one years ago, Mr. John Montagu coached a Trinity College First XVIII team through a season undefeated. This year he repeated the feat by coaching the 2004 First XVIII team through a season of ten games with a record of nine wins and one draw. After winning seven games and recording an enthralling draw, all that stood between Trinity and the 2004 Alcock Cup was arch rival and brother school Aquinas College. The Grand Final was played in front of more than three thousand five hundred spectators. It will be remembered as one of the best PSA football games ever. All credit to Aquinas, the game was very close, but in true Trinity spirit and with the support of the strong Trinity contingent the boys took the game and the Cup by two points.

support. One individual deserves special recognition and thanks for his efforts on that day. Michael Moroz led cheer after cheer, each one louder than the last and as the game wore on the cheering drowned out every other noise. The team was very appreciative of the job that Michael did and of all who were there to follow his wonderful lead. The senior footballers of the college showed great dedication, commitment, spirit and mateship. Three boys in particular that have made my job so much easier: James Thompson, Ben Russell and Ben Gryta, this year’s vice-captains. I thank those boys and all other senior footballers and wish them success in wherever life may take them.
The success of this year’s First XVIII would not have happened without the help of many individuals. Father McMahon, before the start of every game, would talk to the team and offer his words of advice. These talks truly inspired the lads and on behalf of all the players I would like to thank him. Thanks also to Mr. Jurevich who spoke to us before the last game of the season and helped us draw on our own Trinity spirit to win on the weekend.
Mr. Dan Foley took on the assistant coach’s job this year and was an immediate success with the boys. Mr. Redden was the Manager for 2004. He assumed many roles and the season would not have run so smoothly without his expertise and commitment. Mr. Montague is the most passionate man I know in the world of schoolboy football, he is committed, spirited, dedicated and a man of many words. On behalf of the First XVIII for this year I would like to extend an enormous thank you to Monty. Also thanks to Nathan Bird for doing stats each week, Dave Rossbach and Jake Sinagra for running water and all students who at some point during the year came down to support us.
The much publicized Grand Final was indeed a spectacle for all that were present. I know that many students came down to the game and gave their
