FIRST XV RUGBY

T

he First XV team in 2003 proved to be an assortment of talent. The forwards were easily competent with arguably the best front row in the competition. The backs, by contrast, were prosaic and laboured to produce anything creative from the possession won. For many it was a learning process though and the hope is that the considerable talent that exists will be realised next year. The two outstanding players of the season were the captain, Will Brock and the vice-captain, Peter Trend. The character and courage of both were never in question and both were bywords for tries, support-play and determination.

Congratulations are due to: to Phil Oddie and Gareth Jones on the selection to the State U16 team; to Will Brock, Peter Trend and Michael Botes on their selection to the State U18s; to Will Brock and Peter Trend on their selection to the Combined National, Division 2, U18 team; and to Will Brock on his selection to the Australian U17 team.
