Jennifer Rosen – 2004 WTF World Champion

We’ll see about that.

Patience is a person’s greatest virtue, Or so the saying goes. A tri-fit athlete must have said it For this athlete surely knows That in this tri-fit sport of ours Discouragement runs high; And at times the very best will find This virtue’s passed us by. When hands are ripped and throbbing, When every muscle’s sore Can this athlete still have patience To limp in for more? When you’ve lost old moves you use to do, And progress seems so slow. Can you still have faith in better days And not feel sad and low? Can you admit you’re frightened, Yet not give into fear? Can you conquer pain, frustration, And often even tears? When someone else does something You’ve tried so long to do Can your really feel glad for them Or just pity for you? And when success seems far away Your efforts all in vain, Can you force yourself to wear a smile And disregard the pain? If despite the tribulations You can say, “I won’t give in! Maybe some day you’ll discover That it’s now your time to win.

Amy Pierce

Age:33 Gamily History: I was born in Niagara Falls, New York. My family moved to Florida when i was 10 years old and I went to school in Lakeland, Florida. My son Skylar, twelve years old and a handsome athlete, is the sunshine of my life. He inspires me to be the best I can be in life. Career: I am an account executive for a Fortune 200 company and have worked in the telecom industry for the past 12 years. In addition, I started my own clothing company called T-wrap clothing - geared toward women in the fitness industry. Hobbies: I enjoy working out and practicing on the obstacle course with the Women’s Tri-Fitness girls in Tampa. I enjoy the outdoors, anything athletic and daring. Anytime there is a holiday or special occasion, I enjoy entertaining and throwing festive parties with close friends and family. My son’s sports - soccer, basketball, and football keeps us busy. I love being a soccer mom! Did you have fun shooting the cover? I had a wonderful time shooting the cover. The day was spent with Coach Al Rosen, Bernadette Schimnowski, my best friend Jen Rosen, and Rick Schaff, a wonderful photographer. We shot on the cliffs by the ocean in Pacific Palisades, California. It was a beautiful experience! What do i like about the Tri-fitness events? WOW, I am going to try and put into words what I like most about the Tri-Fitness events. I love competing with all the wonderful friends I have grown so close to over the years. The first competition I did was in 1999. The organization has helped me gain self confidence and achieve all my fitness goals. Doing things I never thought I could achieve brings me tears of happiness! I like the fact that the Women’s Tri-Fitness athletes are tough; we impress and kick the men’s butts when they come out and try the course. They are taken back by the talent and drive that we have on the course and away from the course. Additionally, the events inspire me and other women, men and children to be our best on and off the course! What advice do you have to other competitors and future competitors? I would say don’t give up on your dreams. Keep practicing and pushing yourself to achieve your personal goals. Never say you can’t do something. You can do whatever you put your mind and body to do. Life is short so don’t put off what you can do today and wait for tomorrow. Like NIKE says: “Just do it!” 10

%XBZOF +PIOTPO PO UIF #JH 4DSFFO Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Tri-Fitness Spokesperson, is proving to be one of the biggest box office draws in the movie industry. With the recent success of Disney’s Game Plan, number one in the theatres it first two weeks and easily number one in its first week on the national DVD sales and rental charts, Dwayne is busy with his next two films, Get Smart and Witch Mountain. On June 20, 2008, you will want to see the hilarious comedy Get Smart which is an adaptation of the hit 1960’s comedy series created by Mel Brooks. This movie stars Steve Catrell (40-Year Old Virgin), Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin and Dwayne Johnson! Witch Mountain (Walt Disney Pictures) is a family film that tells the story of two children with psychic abilities whose search for their origins get them caught up in an adventure with a cab driver, played by Dwayne Johnson. Since the Witch Mountain is being filmed in Las Vegas in mid June, one never knows who will show up at the Tri-Fitness World Challenge in July? As for being involved in Tri-Fitness and The Rock Foundation Children’s Fitness Challenge, Dwayne sent the following note to Tri-Fitness volunteers following the Malibu event (see this issue): “Just wanted to say Thank You so very much to you and your entire team who gave their time and energy to what turned out to be an outstanding day for the foundation! You and your team were incredibly encouraging to all the children who participated....especially Simone and Madison (who’s the little star in the Game Plan). It was a very proud day and I was proud and extremely grateful to have you there! Thank you again Al and we’ll be sure to accomplish even bigger things in 2008 together!”

The Tri-Fitness was honored to have The Greatest Wrestler in the history of its sport, Ric “Nature Boy” Flair at the Fall Classic this past November (coverage in next issue). Ric had the following comments about the event: “I have known Al Rosen for over thirty years and have known of this event in which my wife Tiffany has competed. But, to witness this event and the athletes in person was amazing. This is a first class athletic competition and I know why Dwayne Johnson is involved. Al treats each athlete with respect and I was impressed how the athletes respect each other. I look forward to having my wife compete again as well as my daughter. Who knows, you might even see the Nature Boy fly over the cargo net one day. It was great to be a spotter on the course with my long time friends Haku and Joe Gomez. Wooo!”

Zumwa lt, M. D.

It is going to be great having American Gladiators producer, Chad Haywood, in attendance at the Tri-Fitness World Challenge. With an abundance of great athletes at our events, it is only fitting that the Tri-Fitness be a searching ground for talent for this highly successful television show.

Speaking of gladiators, Dottie O’Connor (Nike sponsored athlete) made her return to the 2007 Tri-Fitness World Challenge. Dottie, a double lung and double kidney transplant athlete, competed in all four events as well as helping with the Children’s Fitness Challenge. Dottie (who had cystic fibrosis) was there to run with a new friend who also had cystic fibrosis. When asked about her return, Dottie replied, “It was great being home with my extended family – The Tri-Fitness. This organization changed my life. Promoter Al Rosen was shocked and honored when at the end of Dottie’s fitness routine she pulled the covering off the box she was using as a prop and it paid remembrance to Al’s dad, George.

I

am asked very often about the origin of the Women’s Tri-Fitness. My background was in athletics, coaching, owning a health club and promotion. In addition, I had the fortunate opportunity to wrestle professionally in the late seventies and early eighties. This opportunity presented itself as the health club I owned (Boddy Shoppe Gym) in Tampa was the home to professional wrestlers in the seventies and eighties (those living in and passing through Florida). This is a special year for me with the WWE Hall of Fame about to induct their 2008 class of Ric Flair, Rocky Johnson, and High Chief Peter Maivia.

Haku, Al Rosen, and Ric Flair

Friendships with all three, Rocky, Ric and the Chief were formed in the seventies and they continue today. Rocky Johnson was one of the most athletic wrestlers of all time. Having a bodybuilders physique, the Soul Man, had a gymnastic and boxing background. One minute he was shuffling like Ali while the next he was doing a kip up off the mat and high back extensions coming off tackles. Being a black man in the seventies in this sport was not easy. There were times we were together where he ignored racial comments. Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Rocky married into a wrestling family when he wed Ata Maivia. This marriage produced the most electrifying wrestler/entertainer of all time — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Al Rosen & Ata Johnson

When speaking of Ric Flair I speak of class. To the billions of spectators from Manitoba to Miami, from Europe to Australia, people will always remember the “WOOO” from the Nature Boy from Minnesota. This 35-year veteran of the square circle as well as the greatest wrestler of all time has been my friend for over thirty years. We met at the Boddy Shoppe Gym and I soon found myself doing squats and pushups to a deck of cards. I know I can call on Ric for anything and he will be there for me as he was at the 2007 Tri-Fitness Fall Challenge in Tampa. I was ecstatic when he married Tiffany Vandermark, one of the athletes I had trained for the Tri-Fitness. In 1979, I traveled to Hawaii to wrestle the Polynesian circuit. The promoters were former WWE superstar High Chief Peter Maivia and Leah Maivia. I had known them as the parents of Ata Johnson, but upon my arrival they welcomed me to their home and the living room couch became my bed. At the time,

Al Rosen & Rocky Johnson 22

Dwayne was about seven years of age, but we were all living Polynesian style under one roof as one family. The family also included Tonga Fifita, WWE’s Haku (who hopefully will be inducted one day). There were fun days of driving around the Island in back of a pick up truck with the High Chief and Andre The Giant. Only one can imagine what the driver behind the truck was thinking. The stories of his toughness are often told (twenty cops trying to subdue him in San Francisco or putting another wrestler through a glass plate window) and I was there to see one incident; the young twenty-one year old muscled up weight lifter/bouncer weighing about 280 lbs should not have called him an “old man” – 60 seconds later the pumped up toughie needed a knee replacement! Unfortunately, a few years later Peter passed away but he left behind a legacy. The seventies, eighties, nineties has come and gone. But, the thing, which has prevailed, is the friendship with these men and their families. The Tri-Fitness is honored to have Dwayne Johnson as its spokesperson and the involvement of the Rock Foundation in its Children’s Fitness Challenge. Dany Garcia Johnson has been a judge, volunteer and supporter of our event since its beginning. Next to my dad, Ata Johnson has been my biggest supporter and believed in my idea of Tri-Fitness when not many did. Tiffany Vandermark was the first athlete who told me I had to put on an event. Torrie Wilson, a young girl from Boise, Idaho, was the first athlete registered for the initial 1998 Tri-Fitness event. Following right behind her was Chicago’s Lisa Marie Varon who would become “Victoria.” Both Torrie and Lisa have gone on to successful WWE careers. Tonga Fifita became the Tri-Fitness Vice-President and his family would work the events (sons Tevita and Pate are presently training as wrestlers). When Leah celebrated her eightieth birthday following our 2007 Tri-Fitness World Challenge and The Rock Malibu Children’s Fitness Challenge it was great to have all there. In summation, I know millions of wrestling fans will be watching in person and on television when these men are inducted. Among those will be thousands of Tri-Fitness athletes as our event might never have evolved if it wasn’t for the support of those mentioned above. Thank you Vince McMahon!

Dear Dr. Z, I’m in my mid-fifties and recently over the past several weeks I’ve had an aching feeling on the outside of my right (dominant) elbow, especially when I try to pick up something up even as light as a gallon of milk. I don’t recall hurting it in any way but it’s really starting to interfere with my tennis game and lifting in the gym. The elbow pain is also very bothersome during daily chores such as painting the walls inside my new house. I’m really frustrated with the whole thing since I’ve decreased the activity and usage of my arm but it’s still nagging at me quite a bit. My wife suggested me taking some over the counter pills but so far nothing seems to be working. Can you help me out because it’s driving me crazy since I can’t do anything useful or fun anymore without hurting myself? It’s a real pain literally and otherwise! Kevin from Fresno, CA

Dear Kevin, It sounds like you may have a condition called “tennis elbow” even though those who don’t play tennis may also be affected. This overuse problem is similar to tendonitis except it’s more of a degenerated entity rather than inflammatory in nature therefore it’s termed “tendinosis.” The group of muscles (extensors) attaching to the outer aspect of the elbow and one in particular (ECRB) gets worn out over time and some tendon fibers start to tear away from the bone, causing discomfort with usage. Most of the time it’s due to repetitive motion of the forearm such as when executing the backhand tennis stroke, especially if your technique is not perfect in terms of over-rotation when hitting the ball. Additionally, you may have aggravated it by using up/down movements with the paintbrush. A simple thing which may help to alleviate some pain is of course to avoid/modify the offending activities or just use it as a helper arm only. Another solution is to get a brace/strap to wrap around your wrist/forearm to take some pressure off the extensor muscles but don’t wear it too tight or too much since it could put pressure on nerves leading to atrophy or muscle wasting/weakness respectively. As for medicine, I would be careful about taking too much anti-inflammatory medications because these could upset your stomach and it may mask your pain, allowing you to do more but meanwhile causing further tissue damage unknowingly. If these measures don’t completely resolve your elbow pain then you may need to seek an orthopaedic or sports physician. Once seen, an x-ray or MRI may be ordered to look for bone and/or soft tissue problems. Physical therapy/local treatments will also be prescribed to decrease swelling and regain range motion/strength. In the next step, a steroid injection may be offered to hopefully help out with your elbow pain. If the latter works for awhile then wears off, you can accept another injection to see if that will cure it. If not, after 3 shots separated by about 6 weeks in between each one and if your tendinosis still recurs, you may end up needing an operation to clean out the damaged tendon in order for things to heal up. Surgery has about an 80% chance of working but afterwards, once you’re fully recovered in a few months, you probably will still need to stay away from using the elbow over and over and over otherwise you’ll end up where you started off to begin with! The medical advice given by Dr. Zumwalt does not substitute for obtaining appropriate consultation from one’s personal physician.

Tri-Fitness World Challenge 10 Year Anniversary - Las Vegas “Ten years and still having fun, ten years we just begun,” exclaimed promoter and founder Al Rosen as he welcomed the athletes and fans at the World Challenge in Las Vegas. What started 10 years ago in Tampa, Florida has now become an international event for not only women, but men and children as well. The main and most popular component of the event is the extremely challenging obstacle course. The Women’s Tri-Fitness Challenge, www.womenstrifitness.com, features four events – Obstacle Course, Fitness Routine, Fitness Skills (box jumps, bench press, shuttle run), and the Grace & Physique. The Ultimate Fitness Challenge, www. theultimatefitnesschallenge.com, features the MOCC (Men’s Obstacle Course Challenge) and Fitness Skills. Children,

www.childrensfitnesschallenge.com, compete on a 100 yard obstacle course and the shuttle run. The Vegas event would bring together 142 women, 22 men, and 55 children representing 38 states, Canada, Europe, and even the Island of Tonga! The event started with the optional Grace & Physique on Friday morning as 112 beautiful athletes gathered at the Lance Burton Theater in the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino. “We the athletes have fun with this event as it provides us a opportunity to demonstrate our fit feminine side as we will be competing on the gruelling obstacle course and shuttle run a few hours later. Al Rosen always tells us we are a Barbie Doll in the morning and become G.I. Jane at night, “stated Dual Fitness and Obstacle Course winner Amy Pierce.

After a quick Vegas night sleep, the athlete’s assembled for the Fitness Routines and Fitness Skills. After competing in a two minute choreographed routine which demonstrates strength moves, skills of flexibility and endurance, the athletes compete in the Box Jumps (50 timed plyometric jumps) and Bench Press (60% of bodyweight for women and 80% for men). “The great thing about the Tri-Fitness is not only do we get to compete in a world class event, but many friendships are formed. It was even better this time around as I totally had fun with the event and my dad, brother and boyfriend came out to lend their support. Al Rosen does so much to make us all feel like one big family,” stated Sylvia Ferrero the

Overall Tri-Fitness champion. Sylvia had previously won the Tri-Fitness title in 2003 thus making her the 2nd athlete to repeat (Kelly Gignilliat 1998 & 1999). For Fitness Routine winner Marissa Herring (wife of Kim Herring, former 8 year NFL player), Connie Knott, 2nd on the Obstacle Course (wife of John Knott, Baltimore Oriole outfielder) and Betina Driver, 14th in Grace & Physique (wife of NFL Green Bay Packer all pro Donald Driver) it was a chance to show their hubbies aren’t the only world class athletes in the family.

Once upon a time, children ran around on playgrounds where there were monkey bars, balance beams and maybe a chain cargo net. They climbed ropes 15 feet in the air, ran hurdles on a cinder track (ouch), and did dive rolls over other students. When they fell, they wiped off the blood, maybe shed a tear or two and continued playing. But, that was back in the days when there were no Game Boys nor Nintendo nor Play Stations to keep kids indoors.

Las Vegas Children’s “Organized event to encourage children”

Fitness Challenge

The Children’s Fitness Challenges are athletic competitions that are original, inspiring and promote self esteem. It is a children’s sporting event with a foundation based on dedication to health, fitness, and the competitive spirit; and an event which embodies a realistically attainable level of athleticism. Each athlete challenges themselves in the 100 yard obstacle course (10 foot cargo net, running grid, cone weave, balance beam, 3 hurdles, steeple chase jump and under bar) as well as the 10 bean bag agility shuttle run. Despite the heat of the desert, the Children had a fantastic time running the course. The event was sponsored by The Rock Foundation and Under Armour. Dany Johnson, co-founder of The Rock Foundation, had a fantastic time encouraging all the young athletes.

10 FOOT WALL

.

. ,

The Women’s Tri-Fitness and Men’s Obstacle Courses are 160 yards in length. It is comprised of the following obstacles: 10 FOOT WALL The starting line is 10 yards from the wall. The following is the breakdown for conquering this obstacle: 1) Approach – Most people use 5 or 6 strides to approach the wall. 2) Takeoff – This is the point where you would elevate yourself up in the air; look the rope into your hand and propel yourself toward the top. 3) Climb – Keep your hands moving as soon as they hit the rope; your chest should be parallel with the wall and elbows bent (avoid leaning back). 4) Kick up – When your hands reach the height of where the rope comes out of the wall, kick your most exible leg up on top of the wall (try and land your calf on top and keep chest and chin upwards, thus avoiding dropping your butt!). Once the leg is on the wall, reach up with one arm grabbing the top of the wall and pull body into seated position. 5) Hurdle step – Now that one leg is over, swing the other leg over like the trail leg in the hurdles (pull knee under armpit) and begin your descent. 6) Landing – Land with knees slightly bent shoulder width and toes out; keep your back straight and eyes straight ahead. After landing, rebound off the mat and begin your approach on the running grid. RUNNING GRID The running grid is 15 feet long and 9 inches high. There are 12 squares – 6 on the left and 6 on the right. Your left foot goes in left squares and right in right. 1) Approach the grid quickly but under control. 2) Pump your arms in the same motion as when you are running. Keep your feet close to the ground.

INCLINE DECLINE MONKEY BARS There are 8 rungs going up and 8 down. It is important to maintain good body alignment. Remember, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line – so stay straight. You must touch every bar so following these techniques: 1) Hit the risers with one leg and reach for the “secondâ€? rung while just grazing the ďŹ rst rung with your opposite hand. 2) Stay wide (shoulders square) and alternate your hands on the bars while bicycling your knees. Staying wide will keep your legs inside your arms thus eliminating the “wobble.â€? 3) Slap the last rung with your ďŹ ngers as you ďŹ nish the bars. BALANCE BEAM The balance beam is 12 feet long and is only a few inches off the ground. 1) Sprint across the beam using only 2 or 3 steps. 2) Keep eyes focused on the end of the beam (do not look downward). 3) Clear the 3 foot line at the end of the beam. CARGO NET The cargo net is 15 feet high and you must have control of the net when you go over. 1) On your approach, drive your knees upward and land on the 2nd rope. Run up the net like you would run up a ladder. When your feet hit the second to top rope you will begin your forward roll. 2) Forward Roll – Reach over and grab the top rope with both hands in bicep curling position (palms up). Your head will be in alignment with the vertical rope (will help prevent you from putting your head through the rope. Start a forward roll over the top – squeeze your abs and bend your elbows (make yourself into a ball). Make sure you squeeze your hands. As you come out of the roll, slowly straighten your arms and legs. Use your legs to propel yourself off the net. Land the same way as the wall and rebound.

RUNNING GRID

INCLINE DECLINE

MONKEY BARS

SHUTTLE RUN The shuttle run is the end of the ďŹ rst half of the course and the beginning of the second half. This is the transition which leads to the last 75 yards of the course. 1) Sprint to the baton (it is 10 yards away from the cargo net). Approach the baton low and reach for it with your right hand (look it into your hands – like a football.) Immediately switch it to your left hand as you cross step and bring it towards the riser 5 yards from where you picked it up. It is recommended you use your opposite hand to brace the ground to avoid sliding. Look the baton into the riser! 2) Sprint around the cone and towards the first hurdle (10 yards away). BALANCE BEAM

CARGO NET

STEEPLE CHASE JUMP

HURDLES There are 3 hurdles (30 inches high) with the first one being 10 yards from the cone; the distance between the next two hurdles is 15 feet. 1) Try and avoid chop stepping when approaching the hurdles and be aggressive. 2) Try and alternate legs on the second hurdle thus doing it in 2 steps. STEEPLE CHASE JUMP The steeple chase jump is 20 inches in height with a 5 foot line on the other side of the box. Hit the box in full stride and only touch it with one foot. After crossing the line you have a 25 yard sprint to the under bar. UNDER BAR The under bar is 36 inches high. You will be 140 yards into the obstacle course when you approach this obstacle. Use the following technique to insure clearance thus avoiding a 2 second penalty for dislodging the bar. 1) As you approach the bar, place the palm of your trail hand or both hands on the ground and bend your knees. 2) Push off the trail hand and come out of the squat under like coming out of the starting blocks in a track meet. You now have 10 yards to the last obstacle, the over bar. OVER BAR The over bar is 40 inches and has a high jump pad on the opposite side. The safest way is to “dive roll” the bar. For the super advanced, the hurdle over the bar is an option. 1) Approach the dive roll in full stride and try to avoid any chop steps. Punch off both feet with arms at 1:00. 2) Push off the pad and towards the finish line. Hurdlers have the option of moving the pad. Clear the bar as there is a 2 second penalty for dislodging it.

SHUTTLE RUN

HURDLES

FINISH LINE The finish line is 10 yards from the over bar so make sure you sprint across it. So many competitors are thrilled once clear the over bar and completed all the obstacles; but remember, there is 10 more yards to go. Remember to cross the finish line before you start celebrating! * Hint – act like the finish line is 10 yards behind the actual one, thus making you sprint through it.

PENALTIES • Wall – run around it – 15 seconds; attempt (both hands on rope and both feet hit wall board) – 10 seconds. • Grid – 1 second per each rung missed. • Monkey bars – run around – 15 seconds; touch the first 3 and drop – 10 seconds; or 1 second for each bar missed (example: miss the last 3 bars – 3 second penalty. • Beam – 1 second for each step off the beam and 1 second for not clearing the line. • Cargo Net – 15 seconds for running around it. • Shuttle – 1 second for missing the baton in the riser; 1 second for not running around the cone; 5 seconds for not attempting to execute the shuttle. • Hurdles – 2 seconds for not clearing; 1 second for hooking with one leg; Knocking a hurdle over or hitting it is NOT a penalty. • Steeple – 1 second for not clearing the line; 1 second for not touching the box. • Under – 2 seconds for dislodging the bar. • Over – 2 seconds for dislodging the bar. Your time is calculated into with this formula (all our events are on the 10.0 scoring system similar to gymnastics). 200 (minus) time (divided) by 15.85 = score

UNDER BAR

Do not practice any of these techniques without the proper coaching, spotting, matting, and equipment. It is highly recommended you attend a Tri-Fitness training camp.

Buffed Bi’s & Tight Tri’s

Anatomically speaking, the triceps brachii muscle (three for tri and arm for brachii) has 3 tendinous heads, all beginning at the back of the arm bone (humerus) and attaching to the point of the elbow (olecranon). Functionally the triceps contract to extend or straighten the elbow, enabling us to perform essential life tasks such as getting up from a chair, pushing a grocery cart or door, and holding onto the steering wheel while driving. As for the biceps brachii muscle (two for bi), these 2 tendons begin at the front of the shoulder/blade (joint/coracoid process) and end by inserting into the forearm bone (radius). This arm muscle works to flex or bend the elbow in addition to turning the palm up/out (supination). Daily functions of the biceps include turning a door knob, opening a jar lid, or pulling/lifting objects.

ow that winter is in full effect, what better reason to pump up those arm muscles other than to get ready by summer time to show them off at the beach under bright sunlight? Aside from this aesthetic reason, functionally strong triceps and biceps will also serve you well in not only activities of daily living, but also for when you’re engaged in fun seasonal sports such as snow or water skiing, swimming, or diving. 55

So what are you waiting for? Go grab some bands/cables or dumbbells/weights or jump on some resistance machines to train these two ever important arm muscles, the triceps in the back and the biceps in front. Getting these upper extremity muscles strong will not only help you to function from day to day, but also will allow you to enjoy all sorts of recreational and athletic activities to include competing in the tri-fit obstacle course. As such, you can better climb the wall, race across the monkey bars and gracefully negotiate up the cargo net with speed and strength!

Just always remember to use strict/correct technique when you’re working out. Perform all movements slow and controlled while breathing rhythmically, hold your core muscles tight and don’t lock out your joints. Do also challenge yourself but use a spotter when you can to help check your form and help you progress to the next level more effectively.

With all the boot camps pitching their tents from coast to coast it can be hard to find the real deal. The official Women’s Tri-Fitness and Men’s Obstacle Course Challenge Boot Camp is located in Tampa, Florida. Forty weekends a year, athletes gather to learn the obstacle course, fitness skills, and how to train for an obstacle course competition without a course. If it’s out of your reach to attend a Tri-Fitness Boot Camp, a military-inspired boot camp of your own devise may fit the bill. Built on a reputation of hard-edged conditioning, the Navy SEALs and other elite military professionals train for missionrelated performance. That means training must be comprised

of exercises that accomplish muscular strength and endurance, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, speed and agility, coordination and lean body composition. Constantly varied functional movements at high intensity prepare an athlete or soldier for a broad range of tasks – from scaling a 10-foot wall to doing 50 box jumps to parachuting out of an airplane. Just substitute parachuting for clearing the 15-foot cargo net and you’re in the TriFit drop zone!
