Owner, Ruth Dowdy, explains, “Every woman knows a successful outfit only looks as good as the foundation they wear underneath.” As a certified mastectomy fitter, she works intimately with breast cancer patients to help rebuild their confidence from the inside out! However, she has seen first hand how the high cost of prosthesis can make the healing process even more difficult. In response, Dowdy collects and cleans gently used bras and breast prosthesis and offers them to clients who would otherwise not be able to afford them. She finds the generous act of donating these personal items comforting for the families that do so, as well. In addition to serving the women who come into her shop, Dowdy supports Dress For Success. She provides clean and gently used bras to this organization, which helps low-income women acquire a work-appropriate wardrobe as they prepare to re-enter the work force. Bra Patch also supports Pretty in Pink, an organization which helps women who have had a mastectomy but do not have money or insurance, to pay for their expensive bras and breast prosthetics.
