New Purdue Triangle Vision and Mission Statement

To better communicate the future aspirations for the Chapter, Randy Herrel, Alumni BOD President, tasked the Branding Committee, chaired by Oak Stevens, to develop Vision and Mission statements. Many great organizations use such statements to align stakeholders on the Vision – what we want to be in the future – and the Mission – the goals and objectives we will use to reach the desired future state.

During the past five months, Committee members Mark Cheesman, Rob Searle, Darrell Samuels, Dave Skeels, Alan Shirley, Dave Beering, Nick Acosta, and, Active Presidents Jakob Lieberman and Kurt Bouska refined drafts into the following statements:

Our Vision - To forge a Brotherhood of the highest moral character and integrity, bound by STEM education and shared values, who develop lifelong friendships, achieve professional advancements, and make our communities better.

Story Continues on page 3

In the first five months since your new Alumni Board was formed during Homecoming 2022, we have met monthly to better understand and address key issues, strengthen the relationship between Actives and the Alumni organization, and build new engagement with the approximately 1500 Chapter Alumni Brothers.

Our Actives have successfully recruited 17 new Pledges for the Spring 2023 Class, with 15 new Brothers initiated from the Fall 2022 Class With this combined great work, we forecast 48 Actives living in the Chapter House during the Fall 2023 semester, up from fewer than 30 members only two years ago. With this exciting growth, the Active Executive Team is asking the Board for additional support with events, House maintenance, and career mentoring.

To implement our Chapter’s strategic growth and development plans, the Alumni Board has formed eleven working committees Summaries of the progress for select committees follow with additional details in subsequent sections:

Branding – Alumni and Actives worked together to create Vision and Mission statements to help us focus on core values to enhance our Chapter House and align programs to expand our success in the future.

Advisory/Mentoring – The Committee is working with the Active Executive team to secure a new Chapter Advisor (as our current Advisor, Dr. Mark Boman, is retiring after 40 years of service), coordinate House Improvement Days, and provide support for academics, career planning, and Grand Prix activities.

Career Planning/Co-Op/Internship – New programs are planned to give Actives access to volunteer Alums who can coach and assist our Active Junior and Senior Brothers in securing their first jobs Volunteers are needed

Communications – The Committee is working with the Triangle Education Foundation to publish quarterly printed and mailed Alumni newsletters, establish a new email system for frequent and efficient communications, and improve the Chapter’s website and social media presence

Engagement – The Committee plans Alumni events for Grand Prix in April and Homecoming in September. The 2023 Homecoming meeting will be a “must-see” event. Please make your reservations soon!

Fundraising – Working to re-establish the “Voluntary Alumni Dues” program to help fund annual projects and enhance engagement with Actives and Alumni.

House Improvement – Working on projects for interior enhancements to the living, dining, and Chapter rooms, plus beautification of the landscaping All projects are designed to improve the public image of the property

House Renovation/Rebuild – The Committee will present final options with benefits and rough costs for our future Chapter House during the Annual Homecoming Meeting You will want to be present for this one!

Recruitment – The Committee has established good working relations with the Active Rush team and provided financial support for Pledge class projects. Continued success with the 2023 Fall Rush is vital to our Chapter’s growth plans.

West Lafayette Housing Corporation – The Committee is defining a revised organizational structure to establish a new legal entity for the Purdue Triangle Alumni Association. The current legal entity will be transformed to include only the ownership and operations of the Chapter House property, thus providing legal separation between the Alumni Association and the physical property asset. We will vote on this proposed structure during our Annual Homecoming Meeting

Help Create the Future Purdue Triangle!

As evident in these Committee reports, the Board has built good momentum during the previous five months and continues to plan new projects to sustain our growth The Recruiting Team has made tremendous gains, communications between Actives and Alumni have substantially improved, and short-term housing issues are being addressed All these efforts have combined to provide financial stability for Fall cashflow projections – a remarkable improvement compared to the performance during the “COVID -years.” These tremendous accomplishments point to future gains and success for the Chapter. Thanks again for all your support!

However, we still have much work to complete quickly, so we need your help Our goal is to be the #1 STEM fraternity on the Purdue Campus, with the best Actives, Alums, and Alumni Organization. We are “raising the bar” and laying the foundation for future greatness. Please help us continue to build the future outlined in our new Vision and Mission by volunteering your time, talents, and financial support! Feel free to contact one of the Committee Chairs or me to discuss how you can help.

In F, S, & C, Randy Herrel pur70 President, Purdue Triangle Alumni Association BOD
