lame it on the beer.
Port Moody, the smallest of the Tri-Cities, has enjoyed some oversized attention from the rest of Metro Vancouver in the last few years thanks to a boom in the making and consuming of craft beer throughout the Lower Mainland. PoMo’s Brewers Row — that stretch of Murray Street near Rocky Point Park that is home to four craft beer makers — has become a popular destination for small-batch suds aficionados. And the arrival of the Evergreen Extension last December has made it easier for visitors from outside the area to partake without worrying about designated drivers. But the City of the Arts is not just about the beer. There are notable pie and ice cream makers, florists and more (and even, as highlighted in a recent edition of The Tri-City News, a lifestyle fashion brand that seeks to make Port Moody cool). And just as there is cooperation and cross-promotion amongst local brewers, there is a concerted effort by the proprietors of these mom-and-pop operations to promote one another’s enterprises and local shopping. These efforts don’t go unnoticed as little Port Moody attracts daytrippers, shoppers and people who might just decide to make it their home.
