NEW YEAR,
INTERIORS
There is something about the New Year that makes us all want to wipe the slate clean and start again. Like resolutions, it's a time to start afresh, no matter what has gone before.
T
hat’s why this is a gr eat time to reconsider the rooms in your home. You might have got used to having them function in a certain way, but now is the perfect time to reconsider this - both what's in them, and what they ar e used for. Look at the up and coming tr ends for homes in 2014, so you can be on the button when it comes to r edoing yours. T he New Year is a chance to breathe new life into your home. To look at what you have got and see how it can be impr oved upon. Take time to spend a few moments in each r oom in the house and notice how it makes you feel. Ask yourself the questions, do I feel comfortable and warm, or a little chilly? W ould I like to stay her e for a while, or am I keen to get out and to go somewher e else? In order for a room to serve its purpose, you need to feel comfortable and at home, in it. If the answer is no, then you need to get back to the drawing boar d and get to work on what improvements can be made. 96 | January 2014 | The Gazette
LIGHT & AIRY .............................................
The interior trends in 2014 are all about lightening up. It's time to say goodbye to dark wood and mahogany and embrace a much paler palette, one that is characterised by hues of soft pink, lilac, apricot and pistachio. It's giving a nod to the fifties, a la Mad Men - we've all gone mad for the candy colours on the catwalk and now it's time to embrace them in our homes. But, we hear you cry , surely this is the sort of look that is best suited to little girl's bedr ooms, all pretty in pink and sugar coated fairytales? Actually no, with a bit of thought you can cr eate a softly hued look that is subtle and sophisticated. Sky blue and duck egg ar e colours that bring real charm to a kitchen, units painted in this tone are undeniably chic. Combine with a rustic slate stone floor and you'll have the kind of country kitchen that you r ead about in magazines. Light and airy, its the perfect feel-good tone for a family kitchen and living space.
