By Judith Krantz
Few knew of a tiny street in Beverly Hills now known today famously as Rodeo Drive, until Judith Krantz wrote Scruples in 1978. The novel centers around a rags to riches socialite named Billy, who’s escape for loneliness is to open a fabulous boutique in Beverly Hills. After traveling the world and several marriages that leave her rich, Billy changes everything about the perception of fine apparel and makes history
The novel is full of the constant norm of trash novels of the 1960s and 70s. Shop, bed hop and name drop. Full of plot twists and turns, it offers the perfect poolside read for your trip to Monte Carlo.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER SCOTTSDALE GALA
Mary Ellen McKee was honored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale recently at The Phoenician in Scottsdale. A huge group of fans and well-wishers of the great lady came out in droves to support her. The bash was chaired by Andrea Robertson and Beth McRae. Trays of champagne and hot hors d’oeuvres greeted a generous and well-turned-out crowd. These supporters have done so much to enrich the lives of many children in our Valley. The Phoenician did an extraor-
dinary job from start to finish. Their service, entrees and desserts were absolute perfection! The afterparty in the lobby was smashing too. A beautiful evening of wonderful and gracious giving, fine wine, and fare. And soul-shaking presentations that night by the youth of our state that will shape our future. Sharlyn and Sage Lentz were the most beautiful couple there!

Recollections from St. Luke’s Ball, now The Board of Visitors
By Katy French Bloom, MD
My family moved from California to Arizona in 1985, and we were welcomed into the community by many wonderful friends whom my parents, Jim and Susan French, had known since attending the University of Arizona. Our Paradise Valley home was situated close to the Camelback Inn, where the St. Luke’s Ball had been held since 1977. I recall attending the ball for the first time when my sister, Amy French-McFarland, was a deb in 1991. It was a magical evening as the young girls were presented on a dais situated over the resort pool, and they had to be very sure footed if they wanted to perform the perfect curtsy and avoid a dip in the water!
I vividly recall seeing the detail on the debutantes’ dresses as they promenaded around the pool, creating a daisy chain after the presentation. I had hopes to be asked to participate in this amazing event in two years, and that wish came true during my senior year at Xavier College Prep. Many of my close friends were being presented so there was exciting discussion about our dresses, hair, and escorts prior to the big night. As the day for the ball arrived, I had an appointment to have my hair styled. It was 1993 and an up-do was the plan. But when I returned home that afternoon from my appointment at the hairdresser, my mother said I looked like someone from the Golden Girls sitcom – not the look I was going for. At about that same time, one of my friends from Xavier knocked on the front door. She too had an unfortunate looking hair style and wanted an alternative. We quickly removed the mountain of bobby pins and washed-out gallons of hair spray, laughing as we styled our hair to look like our young
selves again. It came time to head over to the Camelback Inn, start greeting guests, pass out flowers and sit for pictures. As in my sister’s year, our presentation was to take place on the dais over the resort pool. It was a stunning scene looking out over the water at family and friends. Entering the ballroom after the presentation, I recall an incredible vision of roses in all shades of pink and marvelous decorations coordinated by Kathy Van Arsdale. As with all things, the big night finally came to an end. But I kept my bouquet and the lovely memories.
In 2015 my family returned as guests to the ball, and then again in 2017 and 2022 for the presentation of my nieces. It was a bit different as the resort pool had long since been filled in to add more outside seating, but the night was just as magical for everyone present. It has been 32-years since my night in 1993. Many things have changed, including the style of dresses and hair for the young ladies. However, the April desert sunsets are still beautiful as the flower girls share that special moment with their fathers, family and friends. It is a precious memory for every family, and the incredible BOV team that makes this amazing event happen every year is to be commended and celebrated.

Non-Surgical Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
Thermage Skin Tightening
Have loose, wrinkled, or sagging skin? Want to avoid plastic surgery? We have a solution that could be right for your needs and goals. Whether it’s a sagging jawline, turkey neck, or wrinkled skin on your belly, Thermage skin tightening in Scottsdale can lift and tighten your skin for long-term results without surgery, needles, or downtime. Learn more about this treatment available at Ultra Smooth Skin below.
Non-Surgical Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
Thermage skin tightening is a popular choice for adult men and women. Whether you are just beginning to notice the symptoms of aging on your skin or have dealt with years of wrinkles and sagging skin, Thermage may be your solution. It uses radiofrequency waves to work deep within your skin, remodeling the collagen beneath the surface to create smoother skin. Thermage can be used in numerous places throughout the body, from the eyes to the thighs and knees. You will find that it is gentle yet effective even with only one treatment.
The Thermage Procedure
Treatment time varies depending on the treatment area. The larger the area, the longer your treatment will take. Before starting your Thermage skin tightening treatment, you will be asked to remove your makeup if you are receiving a facial treatment. The aesthetic provider will then place a grounding patch on your body, typically on the abdomen. The nurse holds a small device over the treatment area. First, the device cools your skin prior to heating it. Following the heat, your skin will again be cooled. This process is repeated until the entire area has been treated.

LEGACY LUNCHEON 2025
If Dyan Getz and Kate Porter don’t go down in history for co-chairing one of the best luncheons in recent memory, then we don’t know what. Caesars Republic Scottsdale pulled out all the stops. Champagne, fine wines and yes, even Aperol Spritzes graced the cocktail reception. The reception featured the most incredible hors d’oeuvres imaginable.
Famed chef Giada De Laurentiis addressed the crowd as some of the finest ladies and gentlemen listened to the beautiful chef as she
told her story of success. O’Connor Institute CEO Sarah Suggs, who looked breathtaking in scarlet red, touched on the importance of the organization and its mission to advance American democracy through multigenerational civil discourse, civics education, and engagement. Ted Simons of Arizona PBS moderated the afternoon.
