Bistro defined simply means, a small, informal place serving simple foods. Sounds easy but translating “simple” foods into mouthwatering, unforgettable, “I can’t wait to back and have that again and also that other thing” again food takes raw talent, drive, dedication & integrity. Peruvian born Chef Aldo, has created a unique, creative menu based on American fare but with a sexy twist that also encompasses dietary restrictions such as gluten free, vegan & Paleo. Who knew gluten free could be sexy.

Speaking of sexy, the hoping, busy bar is a hot spot in Stuart for happy hour and late night drinks focusing on craft cocktails & local beers as well as a very well stocked bar of libations. If you haven’t been for happy hour it is a must.

The diversity in both price and variety offered at Spritz are signature to an off the menu style brunch, what chef Aldo, Michael, Nichole & their staff do so differently is offer incomparable, not so brunchy dishes presented in a sophisticated yet simple style that are put together with a lot of thought and talent.

It’s hip, it’s modern, it’s affordable and there is no need for a baggy shirt to cover your unbuttoned pants or a zip lock liner for your handbag ladies, just relax, share a few plates, order a few more, and keep knocking back those mimosas as Aunt Karen entertains the kids.

While many look forward to this season as it means colorful blooms and the reduction of clut-ter, some aspects of this season present dangers to our pets. Here aåre seven safety tips to help keep your pets safe this spring.

CHOCOLATE, CANDY AND OTHER EASTER BASKET ITEMS

Chocolate still ranks as the number one pet poison according to vets across the USA. This time of year, Regardless, it could soon be inside your dog’s stomach. Xylitol, a naturally occurring sugar alcohol used as a sweetener in many common human food products such as candy and chewing gum, is another item to keep out of your dog’s reach. Even if the Easter baskets in your home are not filled with chocolatey and sweet goodness, other hazardous items like fake grass, candy wrappers and plastic eggs are notorious for causing gastrointestinal obstructions in pets. Cats seem to enjoy chewing on the shimmering, wiggling temptation of fake grass, As a good feline parent make sure your cats pass on this grass. Unpeeled hard-boiled eggs are al-so favorites for dogs to eat and can cause GI complications or obstructions.

SPRING CLEANING

Spring-cleaning products labeled “natural” doesn’t mean your pets are free from harm. Make sure that your spring-cleaning products are pet-friendly, and when cleaning, keep pets secure and away until all cleaning substances are dry and out of paws’ reach.

SPRING PLANTS AND FLOWERS

Easter Lily and other springtime blooms are common findings this time of year. This plant and related plants in the lily family are very toxic to cats if ingested. The first signs of a problem are vomiting and lethargy, and if untreated, may progress to kidney failure and death. Daffo-dils, another popular component of spring floral arrangements, are also toxic to cats.

EXERCISE-RELATED INJURIES

If your dog has been less active during the winter, work your way into an exercise plan for you and your dog gradually. This will help rebuild muscle tone and cardiovascular health before they engage in outdoor activities.

SPRINGTIME ALLERGIES

Just like you, pets can have allergies to plants and pollens of springtime. Spring and autumn are the peak seasons when most pet parents notice an increase in their pet’s chewing and scratching. Don’t be alarmed if your pet develops a new itch, talk to your veterinary.

Taking precautions can insure a healthy, enjoyable spring for you and your fur kid. Have a safe Spring and remember, be kind to all of our pets and their friends!

When the Rainbow Bridge Appears…

Easter is often a time for reflection of death and for many, our pets are such a big part of our lives that their deaths often leave a big void. With the help of SafePassages Pet Cremation, we can add compassionate closure to our families after the passing of a pet.

2. Why Cremation?

Consider this: in most counties in Florida it is still legal to bury your pet. However, if an animal has been administered euthanasia drugs, and our water table is only a couple feet under the surface…you guessed it. Those drugs will eventually make their way back into our community’s water. It’s the same thing with another relatively “new” technology called aquamation allowing the “by-product” of the tissue to quite literally be flushed down drain and makes its way into water treatment facilities.

3. As parents and business owners in a close knit community, what keeps you on track?

Here is a question and answer with President and General Partner, Margo Siewert-Roth to help us all learn more:

1. SafePassages is owned by Bryan Roth and Margo Siewert-Roth headquartered in the Treasure Coast, please share a description and some history of your business.

When a pet passes away, our Pet Parent clients are often so grief-stricken that they don’t know what to do next. We have an array of services including at home pickup (which is complimentary for most areas in the Treasure Coast), individual and communal cremation, and we are also launching services for the equine community in late March.

In 2019, Bryan, quite by happenstance, was introduced to a company in the United Kingdom that produces clean-cremation and incineration equipment. Shortly after connecting with the manufacturer, an agreement was reached such that Bryan owned the distribution rights for the equipment for the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Soon after, we realized there was a tremendous opportunity to bring ecoconsciousness AND compassion into the pet cremation industry. Our goal is to do things better for the pet parent, and also the environment.

What sets our equipment apart is the lower emissions and lower fuel consumption –without getting too technical, there is a large secondary chamber that exposes the “exhaust” to high temperatures for several seconds in order to minimize any particles that would otherwise go through the vent. Today our equipment uses propane, but our goal is to infuse the fuel with hydrogen to make it the cleanest incineration device on the market and to be able to apply the technology to not only the pet cremation space, but other industries including medical waste.

We have but one life and our goals are to have fun… make money… and do good for the world. Our children (Zach, 16, Mason, 10, and Evan 7) and our pet children (Bull, 11, and Daisy 1) are our biggest motivators. When we first explained to the boys what industry we were diving into, I’m not sure they fully understood what incineration or even pet cremation really was. But they asked a lot of questions… so much so that the business has now become “normal dinner conversation” (and we have dinner together as a family at least 5 nights a week).

4. What is different about your business compared to others?

There is nothing “regular” about what we have set out to do. Does pet cremation already exist? Absolutely. However, like with so many industries, there are segments of the business that have become very corporate and transactional. We are putting the compassion and humanity back into it. If a vet partner or a pet parent needs assistance on a Saturday evening, we have a team in place to help them. Or if the family is looking to celebrate their pet’s life e.g scatter their ashes at sea, we’ve established partnerships with a local boat captain…a family owned and operated funeral home in the Martin County area… a church in Fort Lauderdale, and a beautiful ranch in Palm City… with more partner venues are on the horizon.

“You came into my heart one day, So beautiful and smart. My dear and sweet companion, I loved you from the start. And though I knew the time would come, When we would have to part, You’ll never be forgotten, For you left Pawprints on my heart.”

Colorful & Custom: Blinds, Shades, Shutters, and Draperies Celebrating 35 Years of In the Shade!

After a vibrant redesign of their 2400 sq. ft showroom, In the Shade, Martin County’s “Best Window Covering Retailer” looks forward to your visit. Showcasing an all-new Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Gallery and color wall that welcomes guests upon entry, the many displays of the latest trends in the window covering industry helps put the final touches on any home’s style.

Located in the Regency Square Plaza, with ample amounts of parking and other locally owned shops as neighbors, In the Shade carries a wide selection of window treatments, including Hunter Douglas sheers and shadings, honeycomb shades, Roman shades, roller and solar shades, side panels and fully operational drapery, shutters, vertical and horizontal blinds. With a long-term commitment to the community, owner Jan Dean has been at the helm of this window and interior design firm since its conception. Having graduated with an Interior Design degree from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in 1982, Jan apprenticed in an architectural company before taking on a sales rep role for Shades Unlimited, after starting a family.

“I called on design firms from Vero Beach to Miami and realized my passion in this industry was more than a job, I grew to love all aspects of window coverings and its diversity. I enjoyed educating other designers so much that the idea of owning my own business just seemed to be the next step and I did it. In the Shade opened in 1987, right in the heart of Stuart, making my dreams of owning my own business that embraced its community by creating customers while also being able to raise my family a realty.”

Once inside the creative space, customers are entranced by the power of the showroom. Working right alongside her well-trained staff of design consultants, Jan and the team can spend as much time as needed to help finetune their client’s vision of their home based on their wants, needs and style. By being able to touch and feel the window couture and seeing the benefits of motorized blinds, beginning the four-to-six-week process starts in the gallery then blossoms when onsite, in the home. From design to installation, whether someone is shopping for a single window covering or redecorating an entire house including the need for upholstery, it can be done with the guidance of the In the Shade experts providing over 100 years of industry experience and an arsenal of over 40,000 fabrics for draperies to bedding. For walls, In the Shade is also the exclusive retailer of the highly sought-after Thibaut Wallcovering Collection. Whatever your style, you can find a color and pattern that offers a perfect backdrop to your room’s mood. From classic to contemporary, soft neutrals

to bright colors, there is something for everyone in this custom wallpaper collection. Though as society’s needs and technologies change, it is the dedication to staying “in the know” that sets In the Shade apart. Jan and husband, Bill Dean, gush over the advancements available, “As motorization experts, our low voltage solutions save customers time and money in permitting and drawings. In fact, we offer free wire and power supply for those renovating or building a new home, so our customers can get exactly what they want at the best time in which to install it. These fully operational window treatments, for one’s home or business, operate with a simple remote, timer, voice command, or just a click of a button from your mobile device.”

The couple believe in everyone using windows to their fullest potential whether it be for efficiency, lighting, or the view. With the wired technology, there is never a need to not use your automated window coverings for fear of running out of battery power, as was common just a few years back. In this new age of motorization, the luxury of automation is embraced and should be used frequently, even offering preset options. As an additional incentive, $1800 of free equipment is given for people adding wired power to 5 or more shades. Yet, there is even a better perk to embracing the benefits of automation; the potential of applying the purchase as a tax credit. *Details available during your in-home or in-showroom consultation.

Why Smart Shades?

1. Added Convenience—easily control shades with a button press, tap on your mobile device or automatically.

2. Increased Privacy—schedule shades to automatically close whenever you want.

3. Better Energy Efficiency and natural light—schedule shades to raise and lower to keep interiors warmer or cooler, depending on the season.

4. Enhanced Security—give your home a lived-in look while you are away by scheduling shades to automatically raise and lower at set times.

5. Safer for Children—because smart shades lack lift cords, they are a safer option than shades with exposed cords.

EXPLORING THE TREASURE COAST

& BEYOND

Head south for Springbreak and visit some of Miami’s waterfront businesses and experiences. For rivers 55 and 56, River Roamin’ with the Tillery’s did just that. We set off for a weekend of exploration while staying at a delightful Airbnb with its own private dock, right off the Miami River in the heart of downtown

Just outside the River Landing shopping mall and condominium complex, the Gerry Curtis Park public boat ramp provided plenty of parking and ease to enter the Miami River. Once on the water, surrounded by mega yachts and thousands of shipping containers; we felt a sense of calm. The city’s appeal quickly shows itself with unique buildings, many with bold colors and murals, and full marinas occupied by boats of all styles.

In the morning we passed the morning yoga and workout classes along the riverbed, we saw the charm in the businesses that decorated for both day and night along the working waterfront. Art was all around us, in massive sculptures as well as in architecture.

Next stop through the Biscayne Bay, was the Little Biscayne River, our 56th river in our family’s goal to go down every river in Florida. Adorned with nice sized homes, charming and wellmanicured yet not pretentious, the water’s depth became increasingly shallower as we headed west. After having lunch looking out at the small community park, we set our sights towards the big bridges for some

Riverroaminwiththetillerys.com

fishing. With the music blaring, we caught several fish in a row including a sizeable Triggerfish. With our day complete, we headed in for some relaxation before our 8:30pm reservations at the Jamon Iberico Pata Negra Restaurant. Just steps away from the Scottish Rite of Miami, this Spanish restaurant offered up live Flamenco dancing in a separate space from the main dining room. At an extra $15 per person, the guitarist and two dancers adorn dinner guests with passionate performances and music that charges your heart blood flow as if its surging through the floorboards. With several tapas to try, our family enjoyed the pitcher of sangria complete with diced apples and berries along with the salty, serrano ham croquettes. Additionally, we dined on the Felipe’s Broken Eggs with chorizo and pork loin as well as a sensational lobster bisque with fresh crema. Though we did not order their famous paella, we did try the Galician Style Octopus which was not a favorite at the table but fun to try. With our energy high, this mom river roamer was the first to take to the stage when invited up by the dancers at the end of their performance. It was a joy to relive a childhood memory from a similar experience in downtown Toronto some twenty-five years ago. Looking our Miami best in bright happy colors and prints, we hopped in our Uber back to our weekend casa. As per usual, our Sunday morning sendoff consisted of an early wakeup for mom and pup with fresh coffee and views of the river and sunrise. After a quick breakfast and final look, we loaded up the truck with our luggage and reattached the boat trailer. Dad set off to the boat launch and Charlie drove the boat back with Mom and Seger for a final good bye ot the Miami River.

GRAND OPENING of GHO HOMES NEW MODEL in THE STRAND Vero Beach, FL

The excitement to open their newest decorated model is not lost on GHO HOMES. They have gone over the top with the announcement of their new model in The Strand, the Sand Dollar Grande, which features an expansive “showman” style outside entertainment area with a large pool and putting green. “We took our time with this model to showcase the true luxury available in our homes at The Strand, and show options that allow you to buy not just a home from us, but a lifestyle” stated Bill Handler, President of GHO HOMES. And what a statement they have made with this home! In addition to the expansive outside entertaining area, this professionally decorated model boasts numerous unique decorator elements including a sauna in the exercise room, a guitar/music room in the den, back-lit wall designs and unique lighting in the master suite, and more details that you will just have to visit and see for yourself.

The Sand Dollar Grande features 3 bedrooms, den, 3 and ½ bathrooms, and a 3-car garage expanding over 3,041 air conditioned square feet and over 4,400 total square feet, making this home an entertainers dream. Join us this weekend - Saturday 10 a.m to 5 p.m. or Sunday 12 to 5 p.m. to be one of the first to tour this beautiful model. If you happen to fall in love with this home, GHO Homes has an inventory home under construction that will be ready in March/April of this year available at just $1,970,824.

The Strand is located on Vero Beach’s barrier island between A1A and the Indian River, with deeded beach access and an easy walk to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and one of Florida’s most beautiful beaches. The single family homes built by GHO Homes sit off of A1A behind the attached villas phase and through a private gate to your new oasis. For Everyday Pampering to Special Occasions and Fantasy Hair:

With over 6,000 sq. ft of salon space and nearly sixteen years of continual service, it is no wonder clients feel special and safe each time they walk in the door of True Colors. Always seeing a big smile from the staff, whether it is a passing stylist mixing color or the employees behind the desk, one never waits long to be chauffeured into their seat for whatever service they scheduled. The relaxing atmosphere with properly spaced chairs, paired with your beverage and snack of choice, allows customers to settle in and open up with their stylist about what they are loving or wanting to change about their hair, nails or skin.

With customer satisfaction at the root of all they do (pun intended), True Colors has a guarantee that is unlike any other salon in the area. Pure delight. Having worked hard for their stellar reputation, it is important to preserve it and to do so, the talented team fixes any shortfalls that may have occurred ensuring guests are not only satisfied but delighted.

Owners Courtney and Reagan Turner believe in trying to always make things right and doing their very best in every aspect of their lives from parenting to operating a thriving business. “We both came from different industries yet understood business and wanted to work together while raising our family in Vero Beach when the salon opportunity presented itself,” recalls Courtney. Since 2007, the salon has expanded in size with their two young children often making appearances to waive and chat with customers. As long term tenants, the Turners are excited about a new exterior façade in the works that will add curb appeal to the 12th Street part of Old Dixie across the street from Christie’s Fitness. By the end of Spring, the wellestablished plaza will have new zest that will impress clients both new and existing.

With many services offered, consultations are complimentary and highly encouraged for new customers. These consultations consist of a 15-minute meeting with the stylist to discuss the desired outcome, steps to achieve it, and possible pricing. Though the team is strong with over a dozen employees, they are always willing to grow. Yet, it is imperative new stylists that join the True Colors family are collaboratively minded.

“Our salon is all about each person jumping in to help another. We are looking for partners not just employees. This way, if a customer needs their hair done and their go-to stylist is not available, another steps up to assist and works of the client’s file to make sure it is done right. It is a shared sense of pride that each team member pitches in when needed so clients love the overall vibe of the salon and their entire experience.” Turner describes with enthusiasm about how this salon’s work environment is different from most.

By utilizing a tiered system, each stylist has their own prices, which is based on their experience and the demand for their services. This system allows the Turners to attract the most talented and popular stylists to their salon.

True Colors is Vero’s Staple Salon.

• Coloring Services include: Top coat/gloss, Single process color (Regrowth on roots), Color and Sunlights: Partial or Full Highlights, Partial or Full “hi/lo,” Balayage, Double process and Fantasy color.

Ayyy mate! Let's Grap a Turp

Sponsored by Tara Biek Creative

The name “sauvignon” is derived from two French words: sauvage (“wild”) and vigne (“vine”) & of course Blanc is white. This grape originated in the Loire Valley in France but has recently shot to the top of the wine charts and with good reason. The grape can be manipulated into a soft, sensual citrus kiss or it can grab you by the back of the head and truly plant one on you with notes of kiwi, mineral ity & candied fruit. If we are talking about kisses I prefer the pull my hair & make me gasp but for what’s in my glass soft, dry & not sweet. I love a good story when it comes to a wines name, but this one is a bit boring, “Fishplate” actually refers to a nylon part used in collecting grapes and it breaks often, hence the name “Broken Fishplate” I was hoping for an angry winemakers wife seen breaking plates full of fish over her philandering husband’s head whence caught having a dalliance with the innkeepers daughter! A girl can dream J Tasting this wine I truly get fresh lime, distant tropical fruit, sexy middle aged carpenter & a finish of fall straw. The final aging of a small percentage of this wine is French Oak for a few weeks is exciting & barely detectable as it should be.

McLaren Vale is home to some of the oldest vines in the country, dating as far back as 1850, with beautiful coastlines and rolling hills. D’arenberg Wines are part of the First Family of Wines, a group of wineries that came together to share the uniqueness & beauty of Australian grapes. _ Lorna

Put a little Harmony in your life!

Downtown Ft. Pierce is steeped in history, as are the musical genres hosted at the Harmony Music Lounge –a recent entertainment addition to downtown Fort Pierce. This eclectic bar, event space, and live music venue is the brainchild of Priscilla Speicher; experienced event planner, promoter, bartender and singer.

Donning vintage living room décor accented by velvet and wood, this cozy lounge makes live music the focus. This unique gem located at 116 Marina Way (also Ave. A), is in the heart of all the action and is a destination venue for those who truly want to listen and enjoy musicians of all styles. With Priscilla behind the bar, there is no stranger in the room - rather people meeting people with similar musical tastes and passions. Intimate concerts are performed nightly Tues. through Sunday and range from Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz, Americana, Blues, and Indie to Classical and Cultural music – and, every now and again, Rock and Roll.

“My goal is to offer genres that are less heard, and showcase musicians that may otherwise not have a platform. While I love and support the local professional musicians who play around the area, my stage is here for those who do not gig often, or who have a unique style that may not be mainstream. I also book traveling musicians,” she explains.

The space is infused with great energy and positive happy vibes–which is exactly what customers feel when they walk in the door. Harmony Music Lounge does more than push the musical boundaries for its patrons. It does the same for their palette, offering both traditional wines and beers as well as less common craft

beers, featured wines and sparkling beverages, and a wide range of non alcoholic beverages including locally made Kombucha in various flavors, and Meade made right here in Fort Pierce! The menu at Harmony is affordable, with no drinks or wines over $11, and starting at $7. Beers and ciders from $4.50.

In order to make it easy and affordable to taste and try new drinks, Harmony offers wines and flavored martinis by the half glass, and free samples as well. Martinis and mixed drinks are made with reduced-alcohol, and a Craft Cocktail Menu is being introduced soon. Another Fort Pierce exclusive -- the Harmony Music Lounge offers locally made Uncle Bubba’s Fish Dip. Drinks and food are served right up until closing time and Harmony stays open late! (see hours).

Live Music performance are from 7 to 10 PM on weeknights, 7:30 to 10:30 or later on Fri. and Sat. nights. Sundays bring you Jazz, RnB, Soul, and Motown performers late afternoon/early evening.

Behind Harmony Music Lounge is the delightful MERMAID ROOM. A large, whimsical room that doubles as an art gallery and private event space. With the work of Treasure Coast artists covering the walls, you can browse the room anytime during Harmony’s open hours. Should you book it for a function, outside food or catering is allowed, and a bar can be set up in the room for your event. Perfect for meetings, smaller celebrations, baby and bridal showers, this is a very cost-effective and colorful rental space that provides free, no-obligation quotes and is available to rent any day / night of the week. The Music Lounge itself can be reserved for events on Mon. and Tues. evenings.

Priscilla raves about downtown Fort Pierce.

“People don’t realize how many places have live music here – more than a dozen spots within a half-mile radius. This could very well become ‘Little Austin’,” she beams. “We also have fantastic shops and galleries here, like THE VAULT on Orange Ave. Let’s spread the word that Fort Pierce is becoming a true Arts & Entertainment Destination! Destination!”
