URBAN GALLERY HOME SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENCE STUDIO SYNOPSIS:

HOME-STUDIO

STUDIOS 03/ URBAN RESIDENCE

The Gallery Home is a residence located in dense urban neighborhood in Long Island, NY. This house wouldn’t be a permanent residence yet it would be a temporary gallery space for an artist to display their art, as well as live and work. The artist would have a studio space to work in, gallery space, a formal living room to entertain and dine, a full kitchen, a large bedroom, a small office/library space, and a rooftop garden. The overall concept of the house was to balance the public and private spaces in a way that interacted appropriately with the surrounding context. The studio space is located in the basement level facing the water with no direct sun for an appropriate work space. The gallery is on street level which keeps visitors from traveling through private spaces. and displays the work to neighbors. The living room is located on the second floor facing the water and connected to a large private terrace suited for small parties. The bedroom space is lofted on the third floor on a private “capsule” giving the artist plenty of privacy in an otherwise exposed space. The kitchen, bathrooms, mechanical spaces, office, and garage are located up against an existing party wall on the west side of the house.
