Chichicastenango & Lake Atitlán Thursday & Sunday 07:00 am bus departure on the Panamerican highway to the village of Santo Tomas Chichicastenango. Santo Tomas Chichicastenango, known for its Indian market held every Thursday and Sunday, is only 87 miles from Guatemala City. It is the commercial center of the department of Quiché. Indians from throughout the region stream into town on market days to buy, sell, socialize and worship. While buyers and sellers bargain for items such as, flowers, handicrafts (textiles, ceramics, carvings, wooeden chest and traditional masks) MayanChristian rites are practiced by devout Indians on the steps of Santo Tomas and El Calvario Churches that face each other on both end of the market plaza. The church of Santo Tomás was built in the 1540 over the ruins of a Mayan temple, now it is an example of colonial architecture. The shine of Pascual Abaj, where mystical and ancient rites dedicated to this tone idol are performed, is located on a nearby hilltop. Continue to Panajachel on Lake Atitlán shores Lake Atitlán is located in the department of Sololá. “ Atitlán” means place of a lot of water. The very special deep blue color of the lake is the consequence of its great depth ant transparency. It was formed by a volcanic caldera. Three volcanoes surround it, Tolimán, San Pedro and Atitlán. It is possible to climb all of them. Lake Atitlán Is surrounded by many colorful villages. Each village has a dress with a special design and pattern. Panajachel is the most important village of the area, and therefore most of the hotels, restaurants, discotheques and stores are locate there. Many of the villages can be visited by boat. After a short stop return to Antigua.

Pacaya Volcano (half day) daily

Pacaya is an complex volcano in Guatemala, which first erupted approximately 23,000 years ago and has erupted at least 23 times since the Spanish conquest of Guatemala. Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 metres (8,373 ft). After being dormant for a century, it erupted violently in 1965 and has been erupting continuously since then. Much of its activity is Strombolian, but occasional Plinian eruptions also occur. Pacaya is a popular tourist attraction. Pacaya lies 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of Guatemala City and close to Antigua. So far, the last activity reported has been the eruption that peaked on May 27, 2010, causing ash to rain down in Guatemala City, Antigua and Escuintla. Bus departure at 06:00am for a half-day adventure trip. After one and a half-hour drive arrival at the climbing point at the village of San Francisco de Salles. Climb through a path surrounded by lush vegetation for approx. one hour and then walk on the dried lava and ash, with spectacular views. Return to the village and transfer back to Antigua. Copán 2 Days (daily) COPAN (Honduras) 2 days /1 night

Copán is an archaeological site of the Maya civilization located in the Copan Department of western Honduras, not far from the border with Guatemala. It was the capital city of a major Classic period kingdom from the 5th to 9th centuries AD. The city was located in the extreme southeast of the Mesoamerican cultural region. In this fertile valley now lies a city of about 3000, a small airport, and a winding road. Leaving Antigua by shuttle at 04:00am. Arriving in the village of Copan Ruinas, Honduras around 09:30am, transfer to Hotel Don Udos. Transfer by a “tuc-tuc” to the park. Guided visit to the archaeological site. The next day we suggest to visit the Macaw Mountain a Bird Park and Botanical Garden. At 12:00 shuttle back to Antigua.
