Winter Time Safety Risk of battery explosion from Hydrogen Gas when charging could result in blindness, serious injury, permanent disfigurement and scarring. ALWAYS wear complete eye protection “goggles” when working with or charging batteries. In freezing temperatures a discharged battery may be frozen. Do not attempt to charge a frozen battery.

O

ld Man Winter can be tough on any vehicle, but the battery, specifically, takes a beating. Your vehicle’s battery loses 33% of its power when the temperature dips below freezing, and over 50% of its power when the temperature falls below zero.

- Leonard Reyher

Charging Batteries 1. Make sure charger is OFF before connecting or disconnecting, to prevent sparking. 2. To reduce risk of a spark near the battery while connecting the charger clamps, first connect the positive “red, to positive terminal” and black clamp to the frame or frame component away from batteries. Be sure of the polarity; negative ground in most cases. When removing cables always remove ground cable first to prevent sparking. 3. Never lean over batteries while boosting, testing, or charging.
