Both pairs played in the afternoon session with Charlotte and Jamie returning a seven up total while Lisa and Tony returned a ten up total to claim the session prize. The Deerpark Scratch Inter Club team travelled to Tipp Hill course in Tipperary town on Saturday to take on Collinstown club from Co. Westmeath. It was a tight close affair but the Killarney club came through on a five four scoreline to progress to the semi-finals. Killarney’s Deerpark Pitch & Putt Club has been invited to host the National Inter County Finals in 2018. It is twenty three years since Tralee hosted this event in 1995 and thirty years since Kerry won the Anchor Cup in 1986, Kerry’s only time to have won. THE SOCCER CORNER: KERRY DISTRICT LEAGUE NEWS: The Kerry U17’s sadly went down to Salthill Devon in their final away game of the season. It was a game that they hoped to get something from but stunning first goal from 25 yards, albeit with the wind and two poor goals from a defensive point of view saw the home side take the win. Kerry are at home in their final League game of season on Sunday October 2nd when they face Limerick in Mounthawk Park. They will then know who they face in the first round of the Shield the following week. The all Tralee Munster Junior Cup clash went the way of Tralee Dynamos as they enjoyed a 2-1 win over neighbours the Park. Dynamos went ahead early with a 6th minute goal from Danny Roche. Josh O’Reilly saved a Park penalty to keep his side ahead. Donagh O’Brien equalised but Dynamos won it late on. Mitchels Avenue were beaten 2-0 by Killarney Celtic in the same competition. In Denny Premier B CSKA Tralee went down 2-1 to AC Athletic while Athletico Ardfert drew 0-0 with Ballyheigue Athletic in Denny 1A. In 1A Classic were 3-0 winners over Ballymac Celtic with Strand Road defeating Windmill United 4-3 in Division 1B. Tralee Bay FC and Mitchels Avenue B both were beaten in Denny Division 2. SCHOOLBOYS SECTION: The Kerry Schoolboys action returned last weekend and in the National Cup The Park won at u12’s and u14’s but Dynamos went down in their 14’s game in Limerick. Both Tralee sides went through in the 16’s. This weekend’s National Cup action is in the uneven ages. In the League The Park won in the u13 Premier and Division 3 and Tralee Dynamos in 14’s Division 1. Team of the Week: Well done to Shane McGrath (The Park) and Soni Rramni (Tralee Dynamos) who were named on this week’s Kerry Schoolboys Girls Team of the Week. THE GAA SQUARE: KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The Seniors are training hard for the Championship quarter final. They face Dr Crokes on October 1st at 3pm. Cahill Cup: The semi-final of the Cahill Cup has been fixed. Charlie Kerins will play Tarbert in
Mountcoal on this Saturday, the 24th at 5pm. Juvenile News: There are big numbers at the u6’s training on Saturday mornings from 11am. The u8’s and 10’s boys train as normal this week while the girls had a great outing to Passage West last weekend ending with 3 wins and a draw. The u12’s final Central Region game did not go ahead last Sunday giving the boys the win in the Competition so well done to all concerned. The u13’s really enjoyed taking part in the Lee Strand Blitz and all involved gave it their all. The u14’s defeated John Mitchels in the opening round of the Town League while the u16’s started their campaign with an away defeat to Ballymac. Ladies News: The Ladies recycling drive are still accepting items up to the end of this weekend. The u12 girls travelled to Banteer to take part in the Munster Ladies Football Blitz and enjoyed three competitive games. The u14’s and Junior Ladies are back in training. Lotto: There was no winner of the jackpot from the numbers drawn 6,17,21 and 29 and the next jackpot will be e4100. CAUSEWAY CAMOGIE NEWS: Congratulations to the Causeway U12 girls who won the U12 blitz played in Causeway on Sunday morning. A delighted captain Sarah Kearney accepted the trophy on behalf of her team mates. The U12 County League A Final between Causeway & Cillard will take place on Monday the 26th of September. CAMOGIE NEWS: The Kerry County Camogie League Finals take place in Caherslee this Saturday, September 24th. In the u12 B final Parnells face Killarney at 10am, Causeway take on Cillard in the u12 A final at 10.50am while Parnells face Killarney in the u14’s as well. Cillard News: Well done to Cillard u14’s on being crowned Limerick County Champions last weekend as they defeated Killeedy 1.02 to 0.04. Hard luck to the u16’s who lost out to Kilmallock by just one point. Church-gate Collection: The Kerry Camogie Board are holding their church-gate collection at masses in Ardfert/ Kilmoyley on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd and all support will be greatly appreciated. The Camogie Board sends it congratulations to the Kerry Minor All Ireland Football winners. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 6.7.16 and 27 and the next jackpot will be e2500. The club thanks Blennerville National School for allowing the youngsters to train in the sports hall last Sunday and well done to Ruby Foley for being named player of the week. The club was delighted with the turn out for the academy despite the bad morning. There is no Academy this weekend due to the St Pat’s Family Fun Day. St Pat’s are into the St Brendan’s Senior Championship after getting a walkover in the semi-final. They await the winners of the Ardfert v Na Gaeil semi-final. The Ladies are training under new management
and Denis Healy will welcome new members. The Family Fun Day and Memorial Walk which was postponed a few weeks ago takes place this Sunday, September 25th weather permitting. Action will be in the club grounds and environs and all are welcome to attend. All proceeds on the day go to the Palliative Care Unit / Kerry Hospice. PARNELLS NEWS: Well done to all the parents who completed 1 of the 4 ‘Hurl With Me Initiatives’. All parents were given a hurley and sliotar and introduced to the basics by Kerry Camogie players Olivia Dineen and Kerry hurler Colum Harty. The u14’s were in Dublin to take part in the Cooper All Ireland U14 Championship last Saturday on All Ireland Camogie Weekend. The Kerry girls beat Meath, Cavan ,Westmeath and Down but ran out of steam a little in semi-final against Tyrone but it was a great effort by the girls. The u6’s and u8’s had a great night in Caherslee taking on visitors Ballyheigue and Abbeydorney. The u10’s hosted the very successful North Kerry U10 Blitz last week. The u12’s defeated Rathmore, Abbeydorney and Dr Crokes in three County League Division 2 back games and are looking forward to this Saturday mornings County League Final. Players who are taking part in the Killarney Camogie end of season invitational blitz on October 1st will get a text from the managers. Awards Night: The 2016 Awards Night will take place at Kerins O’Rahillys on Friday, October 7th with the under 6’s and 8’s from 7pm and the older ages from 8pm. Quiz nights and AGM dates to follow. ON THE GREENS: Well done to the Tralee Golf Club who won the Joe Quinlan Foursome’s title in Dooks at the weekend. This was Tralee’s third win following on from 2009 and 2011. The Tralee team was Joan Costello, Jenna Leen, Norah Quinlan, Barbera Reen, Ber Collins and Kay Fitzgerald and team manager Bernie Buckley praised all her players as she was presented with the Trophy and Pennant by Lady President Joan Ivers and Lady Captain Dor O’Driscoll. The news in the Junior Cup was not as good as Tralee were beaten in sudden death in the semifinal against Castle Golf Club at Carton House. In the Acorn Life MC 12 Pat O’Donnell was the winner from Verners Tess and Mark Leahy. Gerard Hussey was 4th with Brendan Kenny 5th. The Best Gross was won by Raymond Kelly with the 18+going to Paddy O’Donoghue. In the Ladies Master Classic, sponsored by O’Donnell’s Mounthawk was won by Mary Savage. Geraldine Reen was second with Siobhan Stack in 3rd. The Best Gross was won by Mary Sheehy.
