Throughout our stay, it was the cities that lured me in. Maybe it’s because they are where locals celebrate their culture, from fashion and art to dining and entertainment. Or maybe it’s because the buildings here – museums and libraries, cathedrals and colleges, preserve its history. But whether caretakers of the past or arbiters of what’s to come, cities are where stories are made and kept. This is their ancient secret and their enduring legacy, and why it was so important to have a genuine local with us.
