Why Greater Norristown

Art League by William Donnelly

As Spring begins its arc to summer, we begin to fully cast-off winter's inertia and turn our attention to projects and activities we set on hold for many months. Gardening, hiking, kayaking, communing and enjoying the company of other people out in the open minus the frigid winds and indoors in welcoming cool, calm spaces. It may be for you, like it is for me, that the rejuvenating light of spring fills you with promise, hope, even confidence. In years past I used that uplifted sense of spirit to throw into things I would never have tried, all of them solo activities. However, the past two years have opened my eyes to the desperate need to foster a true connection with those around me, especially in my community, and I find myself drawn to group activities. Maybe you also work from home, or your hybrid, and you find yourself yearning for connection.

I can't think of a better place to find it than with the people at the Greater Norristown Art League (GNAL). It is where I will be going this summer to rekindle an old, old passion of painting, something I was terrible at in college but made me feel so joyful in practice. Surrounded by people of all different skill levels (most well beyond me!) as we chat and work together, help each other, laugh, and enjoy each other's presence all while indulging our inner artist, I feel that deep joy, that love bubbling up inside me again. If painting is not your thing, we have tons of other activities here at GNAL. We have classes, art shows, get togethers, photography, drawing, summer programs for kids, just about everything you could ask for, and we would love for you to come by and hang out with us, or just come in to see what we have going on and say hello. Stop in for a gallery exhibition, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and chat with our local artists, sit and stay a while. Check out the website (gnal800west.org) and if you can't make it in person, we have virtual classes and events! Everyone is busy these days but if you find yourself wanting human connection and a place to explore your creativity, I cannot think of a better place than GNAL. Awaken your inner artist with us this summer. We look forward to seeing you!
