COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Portage continues to make positive strides in economic development. The north side of the city has seen much activity with the recent additions of WCCU Credit Union and Arby’s and with the Northridge Mall now at or near tenant capacity. There’s much potential for more growth with available land and easy access to Interstate 39.
The south side of town is bouncing back from a summer of construction with a brand new Wisconsin Street (Highway 16/51) and a new Dollar General business. In the last five years, a good number of the businesses located in the industrial park have undergone physical
St. Mary Parish is undergoing an $8 million renovation that includes refurbishing the steeple and the creation of a gathering space. A church rededication event is planned for June 10-12.
Made right here in Portage, the large culvert now lies under the reconstructed intersection of DeWitt and Wisconsin Streets as part of the Portage Canal.
A new Dollar General store opened last summer on the south side of Portage.
