Local Art Galleries Enjoy Some of the Many Visual Treasures Right Here at Home S TORY A N D PHOTOG R A PHY BY C A MERON COBB

W

ith places like Lanza Gallery & Art Supplies, Rum 138, and the Newberry Fire House Art Gallery & Studio, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy eclectic collections of colorful creations. Here’s a brief venture into these three local galleries.

Lanza Gallery & Art Supplies 23645 W US Hwy 27, High Springs Lanza Gallery & Art Supplies houses a variety of works, including oil paintings, jewelry, colored pencil and watercolor pieces and more, featuring the local landscape, springs and wildlife. Artist and owner Tina Corbett named the studio to honor her Italian heritage and father, Louis Lanza. Prior to moving to the central Florida area, Corbett worked for almost 20 years as an illustrator for the postal service in Miami, she said. She is also currently the graphic illustrator for the Gainesville Fine Arts Association. 20 |

For about the past 10 years she has been a fulltime artist of mostly landscape subjects, using the style of “plein air” – a term for artwork created at the scene as opposed to within studio walls. A devoted lover of fine art, her gallery features her work along with that of about 20 other local artists. Along with the gallery, there’s a wide-range art supply store equipped for both amateurs and professionals, and it’s stocked accordingly based on what’s used and wanted by local artists, Corbett said. Corbett even offers art classes for both children and adults, such as the “Paint Sip Create” series. For children, each class provides attendees
