To be a great photographer, just be free: Free from preconceptions and influences, find your own voice and enjoy the creative process. Never, ever expect to get a great picture out of every situation, just enjoy the moment and the ride. It is not the same to know the path as to walk the path and while in it always be true to the three “P’s”: Passion, Patience, and Perseverance. Eventually they will lead you to the fourth one, Perfection. As for me I prefer to stay on the path rather that achieving perfection.

We have several photography workshops We offer photography workshops that support participants of all levels

6

Raul is a strong believer in continued education and for your reference, currently teaches three different kinds of workshops:

to use color, light, and composition to create outstanding images. Each day starts by editing and reviewing each other's photographs. Visual lectures and demonstrations cover digital camera settings, accurate metering and exposure, and the rules of composition. Another important component of this workshop is its focus on the artistic use of light, with special emphasis on basic flash techniques. A final lecture on the basics of editing and sequencing your work rounds up the learning experience.

Advanced: This is an intense but

enjoyment-focused workshop to learn how to use flash to photograph nature, people, and everyday life. Students practice fill flash, remote flash operation (single and multiple units), and ways to apply different light sources to produce stunning images. In addition to mastering flash, students learn how to present their work through editing, seqencing, and developing a story. 7

You will learn how to use color, light, and composition to create outstanding images.

Landscape Beyond Postcards: In this workshop students learn how to produce stunning and unique landscapes that will reflect their personal vision of our planet. There is special emphasis on the use of flash to help in the creative process, as well as the production and postproduction of panoramas. Visit our workshop galleries to view images created during our workshops.

Visual Storytelling: Undertaking visual storytelling is one of the most difficult disciplines in photography. Having the ability to shoot 15 or 20 strong and solid pictures of the same theme to illustrate a story requires a specific skill set only a few possess. These few are part of National Geographic, Magnum and other agencies that specialize in this type of photography. The way I would approach a story would be as if I am going to build a house in the wild. I would need to go out and gather as many raw materials as I can find and then use only the ones I need and thereafter build the house the way I like. I would go out and shoot these pictures, go over the images I have collected and tell a story based on what I have. The process of editing and sequencing is even harder and more important. Selecting the right images and placing them in the right order so they flow and tell a story is 50% of the process. I would be able to tell the story in different ways based on the sequence of these images. These workshops are designed to teach students how to select their best images and to sequence them to tell a compelling story about the place they are visiting. Each day photos are analyzed in very much detail and the best ones are selected. As we progress, images are organized/sequenced for a final presentation.

Raul, Thank you again for the opportunity to visit and experience your country, amazing place with so many shortages but exuberant with happiness, beautiful people, great music, food and incredible photographic opportunities, I have never been to a place where people were so helpful and willing to be photographed, it really made our experience very easy, also it was incredibly safe, despite that they saw us carrying all the equipment that was worth more than what they make in a year. It really exceeded my already great expectations about this trip, and finally thanks for your advice and critiques, it makes this experience all around a wonderful and gratifying journey and to return home with new skills and making me to look forward to the next one. Gracias por todo, amigo! Daniel

Thank you Raul for your generosity of time and spirit, it was greatly appreciated Best, Andrea

OAXACA - DAY OF THE DEAD

Join us in capturing the rich traditions of the Day of the Dead, one of Mexico’s most Time-honored holidays

Not only I lived in Mexico for six years, but also I have been photographing Day of the Dead for over ten. Over that period I have experienced the celebrations in the state of Michoacán, Guanajuato and Oaxaca. My last 5-Day’s of Dead I have spent in Oaxaca; as for me is the most stunning and eclectic celebration of them all. In the process I have met many families and made many friends who open their homes and their hearts to us. A good example is the Lavida family; our 4am date at the Atzompa graveyard has become a tradition. We sit down in the middle of this sea of candles, and pay homage to their departed. Last year we had breakfast at their house.
